Is there anyway to find out admissions decisions with out going thru the portal? Evidentially IT is having ongoing issues with the portals for a portion of this year's applicants which won't be resolved until next week. Admissions tells us that the only way find out a decision is to log on the portal. I find it hard to believe that the University doesn't keep a list (data base) of admitted students. Is this type of ridiculous run around that students encounter on a day to day basis???

I don’t think they are trying to give you the run around-- I think they are having actual technical problems which does happen from time to time. They did send out acceptance emails the day after decisions were available on the portal. They will also be sending out a snail mail packet, which may already be in the mail, for accepted students. Additionally, they sent out emails inviting accepted students to Spotlight week in April, and another email for joining their Facebook group for the class of 2018. If you (or your student) didn’t receive any of those emails, then possibly you were not accepted. And the portal worked beautifully the weekend decisions were posted-- it’s too bad you didn’t check then.

Yeah, it is too bad she couldn’t access it the weekend decisions were posted. Also too bad that every “help inquiry”/ticket has been answered with the standard email response “your issue is resolved”. Yet no resolution. If the University knows the portal system is having issues why won’t they provide verbal verification? According to the staff, UCSC staff can’t access admissions decisions–“only the portal knows”. Does this type problem occur when students are registering for classes and paying bills? Not a good indication of the school’s admin practices.

Finally able to log in!!! 3 hours on the phone yesterday paid off.
