HELP! Questbridge College Match Finalist

Hi, I am a finalist for Questbridge College Match as I noted in the title. I have a huge dilemma. I had ranked Williams(first choice) and Rice. I recieved a rejection from Williams last week, but they sent me a supplement to fill out to be considered for regular admissions. I’m supposed to hear from Rice tomorrow, but it is also the deadline for interim decision. I’ve sent it in Part I and I have Part II right now. I was wondering does anyone know do I have to fill out the regular application for Rice to be considered for their regular admissions? So, should I send in Part II tomorrow anyways without regards to their decision? Or are they doing something like Williams where I get the early deadline extended and all I have to do is fill out a supplement to my QCM application? I’m going crazy because I don’t know if I should finish up Part II to Rice. I’m not expecting to get the scholarship, but I don’t know if my QCM app is going to be forwarded to regular decision. Thanks!

Also, does do any QCM applicants know if I have to submit the CSS Profile to a school that I'm applying to regular decision with my QCM app and that I did not rank?

anyone? i'm desperate.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'll bump you up though :).

Good luck!

Yes, you will have to fill out the CSS profile because it drives the financial aid process especially for a school that has institutional funds like Williams and Rice.

I am really suprised that you heard an ED decsion already and today is just December 1. I know they send early write letters for acceptances (my daughter got accepted early write in the RD process) but I have never heard someone being rejected before the notification date. If they sent you a supplement for RD then you have not been rejected (as the process would be over at this point), you were deferred. maybe there was a mix-up and you put RD on your application so they are asking for additional information to complete your RD application.

Since you have so many question, I think that you need to get your answers directly form the sources; Questbridge, Williams and Rice.

All the best

Call Rice and ask them, I think they will be happy to help you.

I would echo Sybbie - I'm really surprised you've already heard from Williams. If you check on the Williams thread, I posted an article from the Williams Record, quoting the admissions director as saying the letters will go out around Dec. 8 (a week early). You might want to call Williams and clarify.

Thanks for everyone's help! Yeah, I was really surprised to hear from Williams so soon, but apparently, they wanted to give the rejectees of the scholarship the opportunity to apply early decision. I've decided to apply RD though.

Thanks for the clarification. So Williams did not reject you as an applicant :) . If you need to compare packages, then you made the right choice in applying RD. should be be accepted to Williams, they are very generous with their need based financial aid.

all the best to you

SUnkist184 Have you heard from Questbridge regarding the match?

No, starontheside, I haven't heard yet. I'm so nervous. I keep checking my email all throughout the day. Are you a finalist too?

Yes, I am a finalist. I also ranked Williams as #1 but I didn't receive anything, rejection or deferred. I am keeping my fingers crossed - the opportunity is incredible. I hope we hear tonight!! Are you round 1 or round 2?

oh wow, good luck! i'm round 1. is there a difference? i thought they put everyone together into one pool. do you think if i don't hear by 4:30 that i should call their office or would that be annoying?

I'm on the East Coast so I figured it could be until 12:00am our time. Five more hours. I was part of round 1 as well, but the rounds have been combined as you said.

well i just found out. i wasn't matched, but it's not like i was expecting to anyways. all my questions were answered through the email from questbridge. so thanks to everyone who helped me! everything is fine now. i just have to get my RD apps in.

I remember receiving an email about QuestBridge a couple years ago. I was really excited and wanted to try, but when I did so, I noticed a few things:
(1) The emails have bizarre formatting and have much larger file sizes than they should be
(2) Their method of stating interest in colleges makes no sense at all, especially since check boxes have been standard issue in HTML for a while now
(3) When I did research on the scholarship, the only praise of it came from its own pages
(4) Those pages had numerous dead links, and worse, fake links
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
(5) When I went to a part of their web site (I can't remember where, it was a couple of years ago), I lost control over my Internet connection. I had to dig through my computer to uninstall whatever it was that snuck into my computer.

Oh yeah, they also misidentified my year in school.

My evaluation: QuestBridge is an elaborate scam!
But I can't be sure, especially since no one has filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau.

I'd love to hear some information either refuting or supporting my claim...as for me, I'm gonna apply to college the old-fashioned way...

Well, I don't think it's a scam because I know for sure that some people have gotten scholarships through them. For example, if you search for Questbridge College Match in old forum discussions, you'll see that some people got scholarships from places like Ameherst. Also, if it was a scam, then why would I be getting mail from colleges that are partners, saying congrats on being a finalist, asking me to apply regular, or saying that I didn't get the scholarship to their school? I don't know, but it seems legitimate to me. For the past two years, I joined many high school students to interview for their summer program at Stanford. I think a few years ago, their website was not fully developed. Therefore, that would explain all the dead links because I remember that happening. Everything seems to work now.
