HELP!!! question about getting a W

Hi, okay so I am not doing so hot in one of my classes. I am considering getting a W for the class. But here is my question, for the TAG application I already submitted that I will be taking this class and what I will be taking next semester. So if I get a W in the class what do I put on the application in November? It complicates things so much, do I just put that I am still taking the class when I send in my app even though I will be putting a W for it? Its not a pre req class its just a transferrable class and it should be no problem if I retake it next semester. If I plan on dropping the class, do I still put it that I am taking it in the application when i submit it november? And do I have to contact the TAG offices?

Don’t be a wuss.

Just finish the class.

Wasn’t it stated in the TAG “contract” that you have to maintain your full-time student status?

What is your current GPA? The school you TAG to can void your TAG if anything on the application turns out to be false so I wouldn’t risk it. If I were you I would push through the class and get the highest grade possible. Assuming it would bring your grade below a 3.0.

Hey thanks for your replies guys. So lets just say i land a “D” in the class. Do UC’s count D’s? Cuz if I get a D in this class then my overall GPA will be brought down to a 3.0 exactly. But what Im afraid of is they wont accept that D. Because don’t they only accept C’s and above. And yes i dont WANT to drop the class, I really rather just push through and get atleast that C. But Im just scared lol. its a 5 unit class btw.

@WrenchFries: Where does the TAG say anything about maintaining full time status? I’ve never heard of that.

I’m in a similar situation.
I’m thinking about dropping a major prereq course that I expect will get a C or even a D and retake it next semester. Without that course, I will most likely be able to get a 4.0 this semester. Since I’m already done with all the TAG requirements (IGETC, 60units, 3.0GPA, etc…), my counselor told me that my TAG will not be affected. All I need to do is to report I got a W in that class.
Base on what my counselor has told me, I think you are safe to drop the course.

can someone else verify that “full time student” thing? I also never heard of this, and is very curious of this.

The “full time student” thing has to be inaccurate. In all my meetings with UCSD admissions counselors and CC counselors (and trust me, there have been a lot) this has never been brought up. Also, there are plenty of kids who only take a class or two in the spring semester since they’ve already finished everything else.

Yea, that’s what I’ve been doing at CC. I had like 6 AP classes, which covered many of the IGETC requirements. I only had to take math/physics/chem and English classes. I don’t think I ever had a semester that I would have been considered a “full time” student… :S

Yeah and in the last meeting I had with the UCSD admissions counselor I was told to take 1 unit at my CC in the spring to re-establish myself as a CC student (leaving UCI after this quarter; long story.) That 1 unit didn’t even have to be a UC transferable course, so yeah, there’s no way the full time student thing is true.
