I've been in California for more than 2 years and filed tax last year as an independent and plan to do so this year too, however I did received money from my parents every month b/c my sister lived with me. Both of my parents are not in California. I am planning to transfer to UC on fall 09. I think there's a big chance that they will not approve my claim for residency since I got financial assistant from parents, I want to know what's the range of financial aid that they might approve to out-of-state students? Since the tuition fee was so high ....
Or do I still have a good chance to file as resident?

You need to determine whether YOU received assistance or your SISTER received assistance from your parents. Did Mom essentially give your sister money to pay you for half the rent? That would be your sister's money, right?

It was the money for us to pay for the rent, but it came directly to my account, so I dunno how to prove it was to my sis, b/c we live together - -!!

If you made your half of the rent money, then it was on your sister's behalf; if it was covering 100% of rent you probably would not qualify as independent unless you make significantly more than the amount your parent's sent. Who paid tuition, etc?

You can always call the UC residency office and ask the detailed questions as to how to structure your life so you will qualify.
