I'm afraid my GPA is too low for my first choice major at UCLA, and i am missing one prereq for my second choice major.

my question: should i take the last prereq course needed by my second choice major, or should i take a class related to my first choice major and hope to get in that way?

I have TAP, i am IGETC certified, and i am applying for Chemistry (first choice) and Anthropology (Second choice).

another question: How easy/ how could i find out how to switch majors if i am admitted to UCLA? (from Anthropology to chemistry)

Please!! i only have two days to figure this out!!!

You don’t need all the pre-reqs for your alt major because it’s not impacted, and UCLA looks at your alt major differently than your first choice. I know several south campus students that have switched majors, and it seems like it wasn’t a huge deal as long as it’s within the same school and you are in good academic standing. If you really want your first choice, I would work towards that. I don’t think one missing pre-req will screw your alt maj chances. Admissions understands it’s not your first choice, and that your schedule is set up for your primary.

Well, since anthro only has 3 prereq classes, i think i should finish? especially since i feel like my only real chance at UCLA is with the anthro major.

Well let’s talk numbers then…how far from last year’s GPA are you?

Right now, i am sitting at a 3.2, with a 4.0 in Anthro prereqs

And what was the avg for chem? Are you htp?

speaking of GPAs

Do UC’s round them by 1 decimal?

Example: 3.76=3.8

Sorry to intrude just thought since you guys were talking about it i would help the forum by not creating a thread for such a simple questions

I honestly don’t think there is an equation or exact science to how they look at apps. .04 of a grade point difference is negligible, they’re going to look at you as a whole and decide from there.

@UCLAHopee, I don’t know how important it is to you but your prospects of finding employment with a good salary are considerably better with a BS in Chemistry than they are with a BA in Anthropology. I doubt that Chemistry is impacted anywhere. Unlike something like Communications, it is a very tough major which most students try to avoid.

Again, it’s not THAT hard to switch majors within the same school.
