OMG OMG OMG!!! AFTER BEING DISCOURAGED WITH THE UCs, I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD NOT GET IN UCI,CAL OR UCLA AND PEOPLE AT SCHOOL SAID I HAD NO CHANCE, BUT I GOT INTO UCI !!!
Oh how quickly one’s mood can change!
Congratulation @coffeelife! I guess all the things I was thinking of telling you don’t need to be said anymore…
I think you still have a small shot at CAL or UCLA, but you should already be happy about UCI!
Congrats!
You have some good options, even if you did not get into your dream school. That said,some of the decisions are uncommon for applicants with similar GPA with rigor + test scores, which suggests another area of the application was weak. Some likely culprits are LORs (particularly the counselor), the downward trend in GPA, and perhaps weak out of classroom activities (not enough information to confirm).
I’d suggest trying to have a more balanced life during college. One can have a social life and fun during college while still being successful. Many would say that it helps.

It sounds like you’ve been having more than your share of medical issues, possibly some emotional ones as well. Getting 3-4 hours of sleep a night and being really stressed probably contributed. You might feel better after talking to a professional.
Congratulations! Based on your stat, I would consider UCI as your match. UCSD/UCD/UCSB, low reaches. UCLA/UCB - high reach.
@data10 I was enrolled in 7AP, I had dance a few times a week and I would come home at 9PM from that. I spent a lot of time on my ECs( idk if I wrote a lot about my ECs on here) and homework, which made me go to sleep pretty late. I think almost all of my friends get 3-4 hours of sleep. I usually am not stressed, but I had to stay home sometimes because I had an unfair amount of medical issues. I was just very stressed out over the pretty shocking college results, but most of the year I was OK.
@data10 even if I wanted to have a social life, I could not have one, since my parents probably would not let me out. I was not allowed to hang out with friends or have people come to my house all of high school
Cal Public Ranking according to entering SAT 75th percentile
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UCSD
UCSB
CalPoly
UCDavis
UCI
UC Santa Cruz
UC Riverside
San Diego State
Cal Poly Pomona
CSU Long Beach
UC Merced
I think USnews UCSB and UCDavis swap positions, and Cal Poly’s are in a different regional ranking
so i would agree with the Mercedes lover 2018dad
@rgosula
Are you being mischievous?
BMW, not Mercedes. I don’t think I can see myself buying a Mercedes. I will buy an Audi first before Mercedes.
Like what I said before, the result wasn’t a surprise. I would not even be surprised if OP was rejected to UCI. My daughter’s 2 friends were rejected and waitlisted to UCI last year. Their stat are comparable to OP. Although, the waitlisted one was eventually admitted. And the rejected one was admitted to UCLA. So everything worked out at the end.
I was not being mischievous, BMW’s and Mercedes blend in my mind, as those cars I would never spend my money on… Agree with you that OP’s stats are a match for UCI. Probably a reasonable match for UCD/UCSB, but not surprising that he is not accepted to any particular one of them. It would have been surprising if not accepted to any of them. but not extremely surprising.
No from Brandeis #1 on my list
UCI’s a good affordable option.
So’s UCSC, for that matter (it’s better than some state flagships).
I have been following your thread. I am not a student but a parent. I live in Mass. You do not want to be here. You live in a state that everyone would rather live in. With the wind chill factors it felt like -9 yesterday. More snow is expected. Its miserable. Walking to class in the bitter snow is no fun. I went to college in upstate NY. Ithaca is no picnic either. My D got accepted there. I really wanted her to go there but the its even colder there than it is in Mass. She could not stand even colder winters. (Although that tunnel system they have helps.) A lot of kids settle after college in the area where they went to school. Trust me New England and Upstate NY can get really gloomy.
I personally like California weather the most, but I really like the schools in the Boston area. I went on a tour all over Boston 2 weeks ago and I loved the school (the weather was not the best at the time). I guess everything happens for a reason, but it is still upsetting. I am still waiting for UCLA tomorrow ( most likely no) and Boston University on Saturday. I hope that I will have a tiny bit of luck for ONE college decisions coming up.
Good luck to you!
@turqluv where did you apply?
@itshydro Here is the list
Acceptances- UOP, Ithaca, UCSC, UCR, Sac State and UCI( the only one I like)
Rejections- Macalester, Northeastern, UCD(on the wait list), UCSB( wait list), UCSD, Purdue, Brandeis and Cal Poly SLO
Waiting for- UCLA, Vandy, Tufts, Stanford, Cal, Chapman, Boston University, Dickinson, NYU, Muhlenberg, Lewis and Clark and USC
With my bad luck, I have doubts that I will get into any of these schools, especially Stanford( 0% chance) and Tufts. I am only happy with UCI on my acceptance list and originally the schools on the acceptance list, expect UCI, were my safeties. I REALLY wanted to go to the schools on the reject list so bad. I know that I have a low chance at the schools that I am waiting for, but I really, really wanted to go to some of the schools on my reject list.
That’s a lot of schools! 27 of them.
Dude, I feel the same way as you did. Your stat is really good, don’t be too sad about the result( almost impossible). Personally I think the college admission is kind messed up; I feel like I am drawing lottery everyday. However, if there is bad luck, let’s hope good luck will come as well. (At least that’s what I told myself)
