HELP! Rejected from Safety Schools!

Hey guys,
Quick Update:

I was waitlisted at Boston College today. I'm in the process of appealing the Babson decision. Also in the process of applying to ASU, University of Arizona, UMASS-Boston, Syracuse, Purdue, and a few others. One of my investors is a big donor to USC (Southern California) and he is trying to pull some strings for me. Althrough I don't want to take his help, this it beats attending a Community College. Once again, thanks for all the support and advice. If you have any more suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Have a safe weekend

I would highly suggest you have several people review your applications and maybe get some new letters of rec. My feeling is there was some weakness in one of those areas for you to not have gotten into any of your schools so far.

u of pittsburgh is rolling admissions and is probably still taking apps.

i will feel the burns like you did very soon (march 31st)
but obviously you aimed a little high. Harvard? seriously, did you really think about the your stats? no offense, but even i haven't heard of 1700s SAT II at harvard, although i know someone with 900ish SAT I but 2320 SAT II at harvard. anyway, stay an extra year, apply next year

Zagat has EXCELLENT advice. Have someone NEW review your applications --- do not rely on the same people who gave you input the first time around. This is really a case where enlisting the paid help of a college consultant might come in handy. The owners of this site, College Confidential, have received good reviews from parents so that might be a good place to start since you need to move quickly.

All the support and personal advice in this thread is really humbling, great to see such decent people here.

Just checked on the services offered by College Confidential - they have a program to help with getting off the waitlist that might be worth contacting them about since you are on the waitlist at BC.
Here's the link:
<a href="http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_counseling/deferral.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_counseling/deferral.htm</a></p>

I don't want to sound like a tout for them but I have talked with Dave Berry and Sally Rubenstone, the owners of College Confidential personally many times and know they are good people who really know their stuff (they've actually written books on this and have worked as college admissions officers). I also know several parents who have used their services for their kids and been pleased. Having a new set of knowledgable eyes look at your application and give you some advice would probably be well worth the price.

Second Carolyn, this is truly a case where some good tweaking could make all the difference. Invest some of those business profits in your college future.

Loyola Marymount University has rolling admission. I hear it has a good business program. It's in LA, and it has one of the top business schools in USNews. The campus is a bit small though, but you should check it out.

I have a friend in a similar situation (accepted to the school third on her list so didn't apply to the schools below it, now waitlisted to the other two and not real thrilled about her options anymore) and she's putting out a bunch of apps now too. anyway, these were some she was adding to her list in the northeast:

emmanuel college in boston-- you would probably get a pretty decent scholarship there too since i know someone who got a full ride with lower stats than yours.
gordon college is right outside of boston and has a strong business program (sat range v: 560-670 m:550-640),
quinnipiac has a good reputation in the east (in ct) if this is where you really want to be! (still accepting)
try doing a collegeboard search to see whose app dates haven't passed. i remember when I was applying that university of delaware has a priority date, but continue accepting apps throughout the year. northeastern is another strong school in boston who I believe will still take apps (even though date passed). anyway, best of luck with your remaining schools, and worse comes to worse you could apply to schools for entrance jan 06. maybe with the new apps/ sending additional supplements to bc you could write about your involvement w. the company... what it feels like to handle half a million dollars..

also, i just read a story about a girl who was waitlisted last year at william and mary, and walked around campus for two days wearing a giant sign that read "i really really want to go to your school" and was accepted right then and there... show bc that that is where you really want to be

ummm i know community college might sound like a really horrible option to you, but a girl from our school who didn't have the greatest stats didn't get into any of the colleges she applied to. she went to community college, worked her butt off and applied to princeton. she is now a sophomore there...good luck with everything!

The above story could not be true. Princeton does not accept transfers.

<a href="http://www.princeton.edu/pr/admissions/u/transfer.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.princeton.edu/pr/admissions/u/transfer.html</a></p>

that doesnt necessarily mean they havent taken transfers in the past.

yeah she did this in 2000...and it is true, i'm not lying! lol i'm still in contact with her

Its nice to see so many people reaching out to help you. This underscores why the whole concept of reaches and safties is no longer a useful paradigm. If it helps there are rejected and waitlisted kids on the BU CC site with 1500s so this whole admissions game is somewhat arbitrary in these times.I like the U Mass idea and Pitt is a good school. Some of the less competetive schools mentioned may have an Honors Program where you will be challenged. If you end up at a school where you are in the top 10% you get treated well and sometimes have excellent opportunities with internships, etc. Good luck. You'll see on this board some kids getting bumped from their so called safety but into a more competetive so called reach school so anything is possible. Don't be afraid to send an email and call BU and let them know you'd like to appeal their decison and commit that if accepted you would attend even if its in their CGS program. Your scores are decent and well above the average HS student though not necessarily comparable to some of these overachoievers who frequent CC. You seem like a great person and will land on your feet and some day tell this story as a message of resilience. As far as the business---wow---ggod for you---but keep in mind that hiuge schools like BU have so many applications that you have to wonder if they focus more on just the stats. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hello all,
Has anyone of you tried <a href="http://www.iau.edu.lc%5B/url%5D">www.iau.edu.lc</a>, I am trying for their 6 year MD program In association with Texas A&M university.Herad the deadlines end by May20th or so .Any updates an info Kindly help!!!

Anushka

She did that in 2000 and is now a soph?

You would get into the honors program at ASU, Barretts . It is a great school. My bet is you will get an acceptance from another school as well. There are no saftey schools anymore. 1300 is a good score, there has been a hard year, hang in there.

What about your recommendation letters? They could make the difference. If it is possible that the letters caused you all the rejections, maybe you'd better change your rec-writers (if you'll apply to some more).

i know what you mean. i just got sort of rejected from my sfety (university of Rochester). i didn't really get rejected, b/c i got in for january term next year!
I also got into GSP at nyu. i dont really know if thats a good thing. it sort of feels like a rejection but its not. i got into BU though (dont really wanna go there)

getting rejected makes me feel like i wont get into my other schools
i hope i have a chance at GW or hopkins

my stats:
SAT: 1280 (700M 580V)
awesome ECs
good essays
private school
mostly all APs (ap scholor award)
honor student
sports
female
