Hey everybody,

So, I've been trying to update scholarships I received on my fin-aid,but for some reason the website keeps saying update failed over and over again. I'm so worried because my scholarship sponsors have already mailed their checks and my account is not updating! ;( . I wonder what Cal will do when they get the checks?Am I in super trouble and any reasons for why the website is not working? ;(

If the financial aid office receives your scholarship checks, then they will apply them to your CARS bill first automatically, and then if there is any left over after your fees have been paid, it will be refunded to you by a physical check, or a direct deposit to your bank if you have that set up. You should however report them in person as well, to do this go to the Cal Student Central on the first floor of Sproul Hall.

IMPORTANT: If a scholarship check is only meant for a single semester, and not to be spread out over both semesters of the academic year, your scholarship provider must stipulate that in instructions either with the check or by calling UC Berkeley. If no instructions are given, a check meant for one semester will be by default spread over two semesters.

^ Thanks Jweinst1 Cal Student Central also said that the office will process the scholarship checks and to not worry if I cannot update it on my account, but they did email my complaint to the office an their IT department, but I’m still worried…

So, the financial aid office will still process the checks despite my inability to report them on the account? So, I won’t get in trouble right because I’m trying to be honest and not lie at all?

Yes, they will because they are receiving the money directly from the scholarship agency, which in a sense is being “reported” to them by virtue of receiving money that is dedicated to your tuition and fees.

Reporting scholarships is much more important if the scholarship checks were being made out to you, and and mailed to you, in a case where they did not have to go through the school. The school needs to know what your receiving to help pay for your tuition and fees so they can adjust your available state grants/loans accordingly to your budget maximum

^ Thank you so much . Now I have full confirmation Sorry, I’m new to all of this and first-generation,so I kind’ve don’t have any support from family,so I tend to get a little bit worried at times when it comes to financial aid and registration :P

Also, another quick question: Our monthly CARS e-bill shows up randomly on different due dates right? I haven’t gotten my bill yet,but my statement balances have been showing up on Bear Facts and Cal Central?
