HELP! Running out of time

I have to send in my acceptence tomorrow. I am choosing between Georgetown and UCLA for poli sci. Is there a big difference in the quality of the program at each school? Also, what are the biggest differences in the social life of each school? I really cant decide on either one. Thanks

Go for Georgetown. Both schools are wicked hard, but you will get more scholastic help at Gtown and better poli sci internships, too.

I vote for Georgetown too. Being in D.C. will give you TONS of opportunities that you won't have at LA.

I vote Georgetown as well; being in DC would be WAY better than LA for studying poli sci

Georgetown.

Wait, Georgetown only if money isn't an issue. If money is an issue, go to UCLA.

money is not an issue. No one has commented on the social aspect of my question. Does anybody have any thoughts on that end?

UCLA will probably have the better social life. But for the major of Poli Science, Georgetown is better.

It should be a question of what matters to you the most, better social life or strength of the program/opportunities?

A lot of the reasons you keep getting told Georgetown, is because you do want to major in Poly Science, and DC is where its at. Not to say that UCLA isn't strong, it's just that the opportunities in DC outweigh UCLA. In my opinion as well, public institutions such as UCLA could never offer what private schools can. You can feel and tell the difference simply in the way the administration treats you.

Well there both located in a very large city, if your looking for a college with fraternities and sororities then UCLA is most likely to be your pick, unfortunately Georgetown has none along with no marching band which is not a big issue. UCLA has a * Learning Center * Study Skills Assistance * Tutoring and Writing Centers, etc. Georgetown has all of that including a Pre-Admission Summer Program, and the fact that they are only a fraction in size compared to UCLA you should probably get more one on one time with the professor (Just Saying). If you are searching for a more socially active college then UCLA is your best bet.

I would vote for Georgetown for Poly Science. Bill Clinton went there for UG.

For what it's worth, UCLA's poli sci department is ranked WAY above Georgetown's in rankings of graduate programs (there really aren't any widely respected rankings of undergraduate programs). For example, the last National Research Council (NRC) ranking, the most widely respected of these types of rankings, ranked UCLA's poli sci department #8 in the country and Georgetown's #37:

NRC Rankings in Political Science

Similarly, US News recently ranked UCLA's poli sci department #10 in the country and Georgetown's #41:

Search - Political Science - Best Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report

This doesn't necessarily mean that one school is a better fit for you, but don't assume that Georgetown is better for poli sci just because it's in DC (although it may be better for DC connections, etc.). In the academic world, UCLA's poli sci department is much more highly regarded than Georgetown's.

thanks everyone for the input, i decided on georgetown

Congrats and best of luck, for these next four years of your life overlooking graduation will fly by pretty fast starting now (well for some people anyways) farewell.
