I was going to sign up for the SATII for French w/ Listening, but apparently the listening tests are only given in November, and I already signed up for the SATI for November. Is there a big difference between taking the SATII French and the SATII French w/ Listening? I know that one has listening and the other doesn't, but what I mean is will colleges look more favorably on the one w/ listening? Please get back to me about this as soon as possible so I can change my test dates if I need to. Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question, but in a very general sense it is better to take the test you are more likely to score higher on.

If you look at the curves for the two tests, they are pretty much identical. You will find the curves for all the SATs buried in this report: http://www.collegeboard.com/about/news_info/cbsenior/yr2005/reports.html

I would go with whatever scheduling is easiest.

Some of the colleges will provide language credit or placement if you take the SAT II with listening but not if you take the SAT II without listening. There are many other paths to getting credit/placement such as AP test scores or taking a college-specific placement test, so I wouldn't let that play a role unless you have no other way and want placement.

So it wouldn't matter much then if I took French (w/o listening) SATIIs if I took the AP French test? And on the website you gave, dmd77, it shows that the percentile is actually better if you take French because more people take it. So would it be that taking French would be advantageous to French with Listening?

Nope, it doesn't matter. So go ahead and take the one without listening since it will be available to you.

Great, thanks for all your help!
