help! searching for schools...

Could someone give me an idea of what schools I would have a chance in getting accepted into?

Many thanks in advance!

STATS:
Asian-American, live in NY
SAT: 9th grade 1100, 10th grade 1450, 11th grade 2250 (~1500)
SAT IIs: 9th grade Bio 670, 11th grade math 700, planning on taking physics or chem in october, then math in december
GPA: 4.71 weighted out of ~5.2
APs: Took Euro, Psych 4, US Hist 4. Plan on taking Eng Lit, Bio, Chem, BC Calc, Comparative Gov/Eco

ECs:
Tennis 9th, track 10th. Dance class 9th, 10th

Violin: leader for district, county, and island orchestras, 97+ on state music tests since level 1 (NYSSMA music judging assessment), volunteer teacher, played in college youth orchestras, member of Tri-M music honor society (1oth)

Science: working at lab at local college to enter Intel competition this summer (10+ hours/day), member of selective science research class

Community: hospital volunteer since summer of 8th grade, soup kitchen volunteer, habitat for humanity

Leadership: co-editor of section of school paper, vp of culture club, secretary of habitat for humanity club

I'm considering Rice U as a possibility...should I apply ID, ED, reg to improve my chances?

Habitat for Humanity requires a leadership position??? We just go every Wensday, the twelve of us, takes one phone call and some gas :)

So what do you plan on studying and do you have any preferences in size, climate, region, specialty schools, setting...etc.?

Rice would be a good choice. Houston is a long way from NY. What attracts you to Rice? I am not knocking it. Rice is excellent in sciences and engineering. It has reasonable tuition and is small for a university. If you like NASA, they have connections with Johnson Space Flight Center and a sort of space science program. I like Rice.

You didn't say too much about what you are looking for in a college. Are you seeking a warmer climate? U Texas Austin, Stanford, Berkeley, Cal Tech, Duke, UVA, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Emory have warmer weather and quality science programs.

With your well-rounded background, you might be a good fit for the Ivies Cornell, Columbia, U Penn. If you want a small school that is strong in sciences, maybe Haverford, Swarthmore, Amherst, Middlebury, Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette.

Other good science colleges in the Northeast: U of Rochester, Johns Hopkins, MIT, RPI, Carnegie Mellon, Lehigh.

In the midwest: Michigan Ann Arbor, Northwestern, Washington U St Louis, U Chicago.

Thanks for all the advice

I plan on doing pre-med, or if not possible maybe pre-pharmacy (though most schools don't have this option)
What attracted me to Rice was the environment, but also the fact that their med school acceptance rate was fairly high compared to other schools

One thing I'm worried about, though, is the fact that I got a B in honors math junior year, and a C+ in language in 8th grade (which counts because it was accelerated) For math, this would mean that my grades are going downhill.

I'm considering Umich Ann Arbor, and some in-state NY schools as well. For U of Rochester, I wanted to apply to their BS/MD pre-med program, but am having trouble because they require the Chem SAT II, which I haven't taken

Anyone know anything about U of South Florida and U of Miami for their BS/MD program?

koogles, the way to pick colleges is not to take stats and then find reach/match/safety. It is to figure out what YOU want in college and then find colleges that offer it. Naturally the colleges you select will be based on your stats, but the whole philosophy is different. There are 3000+ colleges in the US, and only about 100 or so are competitive; the rest accept most of their applicants. See http://tinyurl.com/dg9nd for a very interesting article about this.

I'm not saying don't try for top schools, I'm saying figure out what YOU want, THEN pick colleges. I wrote more about this in the thread "What College should I attend???" in case you're interested.
