So basically, I know that my admission will get revoked if I have a D or F. Right now, I have a D in AB Calculus AP and I want to drop it. So to find out if it'd be okay to drop Calculus, I called the UCSD admission office and spoke to a counselor. She said that UCSD doesn't care if students drop a class, especially if it's a class like Calculus that is kinda above the average level for a math class.

However, I'm not sure if I should take her word for it and drop it...the last thing I want is to drop a class and then get my admission revoked.

The other classes I'm taking are: AP English, Physics (regular), a vocational ed class, band and Psychology AP.

What should I do? Will my admission be revoked if I drop Calc AP?

Crap Im having the same trouble too, but with Spanish..... (really suck in spanish)
Any help here? Should I drop or get a D?
My counselor said that if I drop I have to report it to them, but on the other hand if I get a D, I won't technically know until I get the report card which is in late June and by the time you report it, it will be almost moving in time so it will be less chance of revoke...
What should I do???

you guys, just DROP IT. it's not THAT big of a deal!!! if you can't handle the course and you have a D/F and you KNOW you can't raise it to a C, then don't even bother dealing with it. the contract thing only says that admissions will be revoked only if you get a D/F or less than UW 3.0, not if you drop a class or not. my friend who goes to SD right now dropped bio because she hated the teacher and she wasn't doing well on it. she called the admissions office to report it and they ok-ed it. admissions knows that we're seniors and obviously we're getting senioritis because it's nearing the end.

I think you should write something to someone saying that you are revoking and explaining why ...and it should be fine ...esp. since you talked to someone

thanks guys. i just called ucsd for like the 3rd time to get different counselors' answers, and they all said that since i've taken 3 years of math already, dropping calculus AP should be fine. they all advised me that rather than getting a D/F in a class, it's much better to just drop the course.

i just want to make sure that no one has any horror stories about getting revoked because they dropped a class.

well, if u called and they said its okay to drop, then you could probably just drop it =D

@ChristianWu: well, in my class we have more B’s than A’s. then again…some people complain that my teacher is kind of hard compared to the other calc ab teacher…

It’s ok to drop only if you don’t need it to graduate high school and it’s not part of the UC eligibility A-G requirement. Like I think it was 4 years of math? You should be able to drop it no problem, I know others like you who have done the same in previous years but I would email UCSD to get their word on it in writing.

ya its ok to drop the class, before UCSD acceptances came out, I decided to drop my AP Chem class and wrote them a letter about it. They still accepted me, so i don’t think it’s that big of a deal.
