OKAY so I’m from the Bay area and I didn’t get into a lot of schools I wanted to because my SAT was so bad and I tried retaking it two times but stuff happened. OK so right now I’m either thinking of San Francisco State University or moving to Santa Cruz to attend Cabrillo College. I know it may sound crazy to move just to attend community college but I don’t want to stay at home. so the reason I’m having trouble is that I still want to transfer out in at least 2 years. I want to apply to the University of Washington in Seattle or find schools on the east coast to transfer to (it’s always been my dream). I want to graduate from a better school than SFSU basically, I’m a psychology major and English minor. The only thing I’m worried about is going to community and not getting into a decent school I’d regret not attending SFSU ALSO I’m worried about housing in SFSU because of health issues I would need a single dorm, and sf is soo expensive otherwise. PLEASE HELP!!! my high school GPA is like a 3.3
If you want to transfer somewhere else and get out of the bay, definitely community college. Going to a CSU just to transfer is a waste of money cuz you’ll be taking classes just to fill the GE. Plus, you’ll have the “going away from home experience” at the CC.
My son is doing the same thing. We’re choosing between Santa Barbara Community College and Cabrillo, and I’m leaning to the former. He got into a few schools, but wants to go to a UC in two years. My understanding is colleges prefer JC transfers to 4year school transfers. And in California, it 100% that way.
