HELP!!!! Should I or Should I not?

I am in 10th grade and i take AP US Govt, while most of the other 10th graders take AP World History. I was talking to the AP World teacher w/ my AP WH friends and he told me i could take AP WH(as an elective) and AP Gov. 2 APs!!! All i have to do is email my gc(guidance counselor) and he can tell me if its valid/or not (the class might be kinda full). If my gc approves, i might be able to take AP WH, but i m not sure. AP WH and Gov are not one the same day, in case ur wondering, but both classes are very challenging. Right now i have Sociology as an electve, its not honors or anything. It would be very "CC" of me to take AP WH, if i could. But, should i? I dont know whether the teacher was kidding or not, but i asked him specifically if i could and he said, "yes". If i take AP WH, i will have the hardest schedule in 10th grade, and isnt that what colleges like to see? taking the most challenging classes ur school OFFERS that FIT with ur sched? He got me so freaked out about it. Even though i dont like to admit it, i am more of a socialsciences-languages person than math-science (but i still want to do premed).

All i really want to know is taking 2 very hard APs 10th grade gonna ruin my GPA? Getting a B+ in this class, would be like getting an A+ in the elective i was gonna take. Time is ticking, i could be making the biggest mistake of the yr by opting to do this.

I've heard it over and over that AP US History is insane. So you should not:)

It depends. I'm taking four APs as sophomore (including USH) and so far it's not that hard. If you like history then indeed take everything :)
Please don't play that GPA game, it's complete idiocy -- you're in school to LEARN, not to get good GPA.

I said AP World History and AP US Government and it would definetly not be a game! Me and my friends were having a discussion w/ the teacher and i got totally immersed in it, that i forgot about lunch! It reminded me of what i was missing out of by not taking AP WH, with such a brilliant teacher. I am pretty gifted at history, and plus i would have another thing over "the smartest girl in our class". If i get a B+ in this class, my GPA will not be significantly lower, as long as i keep up w/my other classes.

Sounds like some sort of game to me. When people try to be better than each other it doesn't turn out well for any of them. Take things because you want to take them, do well because you want to prove yourself to yourself and to colleges, not to the people ahead of you. Don't get caught up in the stupid rivalry. If you see someone trying to treat school as a contest, don't get caught up in it. People neither like them nor respect them for their lack of decency and integrity.

If you think history is fun, go ahead and take it. If you wait until college or whatever you'll be missing out on the opportunity to learn history when you're younger and have more time.

It's a balancing act. If you take two APs that turn out to be hard for you and you don't get the grades you need or want, that could hurt you. On the other hand, admission committees give credit for taking a rigorous curriculum.

Do you like government, history and geography? If so, go for it. If not, you might find it a struggle. My D loves these subjects and does well. She took AP USH and it was a challenge, but she did very well b/c it is her passion.

I suggest you visit with the teacher(s) and take a look at the books; that may help in your decision. Good luck!

I'm a senior taking AP World History, and I will tell you it is way easier to take as a senior than as a sophmore. Most importantly because you've had all the other histories. However, I'm one out of 5 seniors in the class...with about 20ish sophmores. I can tell you they are having a really difficult time with how much material they are dealing with. But in my case, I've had both AP Euro and AP US Hist (5's on both) so I feel really prepared for the class. So if you have the opprotunity to take the other histories before World, I definitely would. It's so much easier to learn world history when you've already learned about a lot of it in other courses.

But, it you are a good student (which obviously you are), you could do it. Just without as much ease as if you were older. One AP class my sophmore year was enough for me. You just have to evaluate how much time you have to put into the class. My AP World has the most hw/outside of class work besides my AP Govt class, so you have to see if you have enough time to commit to it. If you try really ahrd, you can succeed though.

Overall, I'd look at your plans for the rest of high school and see what AP classes you want to take, and how they fit together. That's probably the best recipe for success. Hope that helps =).

PS- I've been in school 6 weeks, just to give you a perspective...it's not liek I just started lol.

Thankyou, LifeUnfolding, u really helped me! I will definetly switch to AP WH if my gc says i can, but it wouldnt matter if i dont.

Your welcome =)
