Help: Should I take the GED test and go to CC?

I need help deciding whether to take the GED test and begin community college, or continue high school where I will be graduating two years late.
Long story short, I had cancer mixed with some mental health issues (understandable considering the stressful situation I was in) and basically stopped going to school.
Now, I am 17, cancer free, but I have only completed freshman year of high school.
I can either begin online school and graduate two years late, and try to get into the best school I can, or take the GED test and begin CC, then try to transfer to the best university I can.
My dream is to attend medical school, so my undergraduate program really means a lot to me.
Note: I am not worried about passing the GED or the level of community college courses, because in freshman year I was doing fine in two APs, took honors courses for the rest, and had the third highest score of my class on our high school placement exam.
Thanks in advance.

You may qualify for an IEP and be able to attend high school, with supports, beyond age 18 (maximum age: 21). Note that you can get your feet wet by taking a class at a community college as a non-matriculated student, to see how you like it. Similarly, you can enroll in a GED prep class to try it out and see how you like it.

Check the GED requirements for your state before doing anything. Some states have a minimum age of 18 or 19.

Also check with your guidance counselor at high school. Attendance is compulsory until age 16; you should not be in this position. Check to see what they advise.

Congrats on being cancer free, and the best of luck to you!
