I am seriously freaking out about the Common App and the time to send SAT scores and teacher recommendations and the education interruption and GAH!

1) So, I graduated high school early a few years back, and I'm looking to finally apply to college. On the Common App, there's an "Education Interruption" section, and I've filled it out (gap year/time off/early graduation), but in the Help Center on the side, it says that you must submit a document stating your reasons for taking time off and what you've done during, but I can't find any way to submit an explanation like that? Was that an old requirement or something? I'd like to submit an explantion and tell them what I was up to during that time, but I don't know where to do so!

2) Since I graduated early, and knew I was planning to take time off, I had my teachers write up their recommendations before I graduated. When I called my high school to ask them to send my transcript, they sent my recommendations, too. Is this all right? I'm not sure why I haven't seen the Teacher Evaluation section on the Common App yet, but is it okay to send in hard copies with your transcript rather than online? Do I have to inform someone about this? So confused...

3) And finally: The SATS. I took them earlier this month, and the scores are due to be released on the 24th. I'm looking to meet my college's ED 1 deadline on Nov. 1. Now, I have yet to submit my scores because I don't know what they are, and I don't want to submit potentially damaging scores! Will the scores have enough time to reach the school by Nov. 1 if I send them with expediency on Oct. 24, when they're released?

If anyone could help out, it'd be so appreciated!

Use the additional information section (at the end of the writing tab) to briefly explain your gap years.

The teacher rec section will be in your dashboard once you start adding schools to your app.

Your situation is different from what the common app is set up to accommodate. You may have to coordinate directly with your HS to figure out a solution. One thought might be to invite the counselor or registrar at your HS as your recommender (using two different email addresses, if you need two recs) and have that person upload the recommendations for you. (What I mean is that you would enter the teacher’s name and subject area with the counselor’s email address when your adding recommenders.)

Thank you!

I can’t add teachers to the rec section, though. I don’t know if that options come up after I finish the entire app, but at this point, it’s not there. Also, would you happen to know where the online forms are, like for Early Decision? I can’t fill that out, either.

Have you used the Common App to list the colleges that you are applying to? I think that the application options (ED forms, etc.) will become available to you once the Common App knows what colleges you are interested in.

Yes, I have. I can see the Assign Recommenders page, but I can’t see the Supplements page, which is where CA tells me the ED online form is. I can only see the offline forms.

If you added a school and indicated you are applying ED, the electronic version of the ED agreement for your and your parent’s signature will be under that school’s link on your dashboard.

To add recommenders, go to any school on your dashboard and look in the Assign Recommenders section.

Under the university on the dashboard, it says “Fall, ED,” and then has two bulleted sections for Application and Writing Supplement. Is the ED supposed to be part of one of those, or just on its own on the dashboard?

I’m really sorry if it’s confusing, but thank you so much for helping!
