Hello.

I haven't decided what to take in my first quarter.

I can take math 31b in math department..

and I do not know what else I should take.

Any suggestions for the classes for (applied) math major?

Helps are appreciated!!

Oh, I’m a freshman =class of 2015!

You could work on GEs or Writing I if you haven’t passed it yet. Also, you can take Math 32a as well but I don’t know if that is recommended.

pretty much what kwwboarder said. I know some math majors that have taken multiple math courses at the same time without a problem. You don’t need math 31b knowledge for 32a, so you could try that out.

Trust me, just take 31b and take one lower div a quarter until you hit upper divs. Take GE’s and other pre reqs for math. I’ve done this and I was never stressed out. I’m doing a double major in physics and applied math, so I know what stressful quarters are.

I have AP Calc AB credit for math31a. I took calc in my HS junior year and I don’t remember anything now. Is it fine to take math31b? What are the average grades in math 31b?

I’m about 90% sure you have to take Math 31B because you have actual credit for Math 31A with the AP test, I’m not sure though. Math 31B wasn’t bad for me, but I had a great calc teacher in high school. Though it varies from teacher to teacher, average grade is usually B/B-/C+ for most classes.

Take a couple GE’s this quarter, then take 32A and Phys 1A with a couple GE’s in the winter, then 32B, 1B and maybe PIC 10A, 33A, Chem 20A or some GE’s in the Spring.

I’d even suggest taking PIC 10A this fall if you can still get into it just so you can get started with doing some research.

Yeah, take PIC 10A whenever you can first get into it. It’s one of the hardest classes to get into.
