Help! So nervous here!!!

Hey guys, I'm a senior majoring in mechanical engineering who got out of mental depression after suffering for 3 years and finally I'm good to go. With my gpa so low and no internship experience I was about to go crazy then I got an email from my professor to come to college for the interview for the spring 2015 fluid mechanics research position.

The problem is that like, what should I talk about during interview? I'm actually one of those engineering students who just don't know anything about engineering with passing grades...

I mean before sending my resume, I asked the professor if it's ok to not have any engineering experience and he told me that being a senior is more than enough.

Should I be nervous? Or is the research interview different from internship interview?

======================================================================================

Here's the description of the position:

The NRDP Center is conducting fluid mechanics and chemical engineering work at the Navy Base Earl Waterfront facility at Leonardo NJ. The facility houses a 200 m long wave tank, one of the largest in the world. Ohmsett.com.

The fluid mechanics work relies on measuring the water speed at various locations using various techniques including Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters and other sensors, and to characterize the large scale behavior of waves and the small scale features of the flow (i.e., turbulence). Students would learn about how to use new instruments, including acoustic and laser-based techniques, along with techniques for processing the data to obtain meaningful (and practical) results. The work would involve dealing with two phase flows (water and oil).

It says “students would learn…” meaning they plan to train the selected students in all required skills. What will count most is if you seem enthusiastic and pleasant to be around and eager to learn. Interviews of all types will vary significantly based on who is conducting the interview, but you should always be ready to ask some of your own questions. Research the facility and project to the extent you are able to to get ideas for things you can ask about. The interviewer should of course have questions for you as well. If you have a resume, the questions might relate to items on the resume. If you don’t have a resume, you might want to prepare one and take it with you. Good luck!

Thanks for the answer, would it be fine to ask few more questions?

So, should I do some research on the publications the professor made or anything related to it?

Should I be honest and tell them about my depression when it comes down to it?

thank you

I bombed it hard… They started asking me all these equations, what they are, basic concepts…etc. Although they were general stuffs, I couldn’t answer them… I truly hate myself for being depressed those years and my inability to get through these simple process… They ended the interview in like 5~10 minutes…
