Help! Speaking?

Hi Parents!

I was wondering if you know of any national speaking competitions that are prestigious?
I have been competing in many competitions (including Lion's Club's contests) since fifth grade and I'm now a junior. I really want to compete in a major competition for my last year but I can't find any on the national level. I absolutely love to speak so I'm really hoping someone has a suggestion! Thank you!

What about forensic league?

What’s that? Sorry I’ve heard of it, but don’t know what it is.

Does your school have a debate team?

yes but its pretty disorganized w/lots of drama between students.

and i do like speech more (where you use rhetoric more)

Does your school have a moot court competition?

How about Now Debate This?

Our state (Minnesota) has speech as part of the formal high school activities allowed under the Minnesota High School League. There are many (maybe 15?) different categories for speech, and some of those (maybe half?) have competition at the national level for those who do well at the state level. Here is a link to a national page that is on the Minnesota High School League web site.

Maybe there are some schools in your area that do compete, even though yours apparently does now, and maybe you can find a way to get involved in those competitions as an individual.

try NFL (national Forensics League)…if you can qualifiy for Nationals, it’s a BIG deal

Here’s another one to investigate: We The People. It’s a national competition, styled like a Congressional hearing.

American Legion has a contest. legion.org will get you to the page that explains the contest.
