Help: Spring Break Community Service Trip

My Biology Honors teacher from last year approached me today and asked if next spring break (next year, during my junior year) I would want to go on a community service trip to Costa Rica. We'd be doing a different community service activity each day, as well as a fun activity each day (such as zip lining).

Would this look good for college? I'm not doing it just for colleges, but I'm just wondering if it would look good, especially because you have to pay for it (it's a lot of money)?

It wouldn’t hurt you, if you want to do it anyway. It’s probably not going to especially help you or anything.

I think that many colleges have caught on to this. These type of excursions favor those with financial means. There are lots of opportunities in this country to perform community service, with little or no cost to you. Plus, the colleges have read nearly every essay out there about how going to an underserved area changed your outlook- a very cliche essay topic, unless there was a truly remarkable experience.

Agreed, it might be better if you just saved your money and did some service work in your local community.
