I am Swapn, I live in India and I want to study in a US high school.
I have a couple of questions.
I am, as of right now in limbo, like my 10th grade results are pending but I know I will get into 11th grade.I will nee Financial Aid too.
What I want to do, is repeat 11th grade in the U.S.
What I want to know is:
1)what kind of questions I mean what is the syllabus for SSAT?
2)How do I study for SSAT?
3)Are questions based on specific grades or just general levels?
4)If I am giving the test to repeat 11th grade do I get 10th grade level questions or 11th grade level?
In some posts I have read about hooks, like sports and all, I have a few questions related to them.
5)I have been doing boxing for nearly a year and my coach said I was gifted at and I am looking forward to some
competitions is this enough for a sport/athletics hook?
6)I have been drawing for a 4-5 years now some of my paintings are also in the school gallery and our school’s yearly
magazine is this good?
7)Does a bit of bodybuilding count as sports?
A few general questions:
8)How does me being an Indian effect my chances?
9)Does trying to repeat a year effect my chances?
10) What proportion of getting selected are each a)Grades and SSAT b)Recommendations c)My interview and essays?
That’s all for now, thank you if you answer.
What school’s are you applying to? Also you put your thread in the forum which is why you didn’t get any responses.
How much fa will you need?
thank you @CottenCandyTrill 1) I am applying to Phillips andover and exter, Deerfield and choate.
2) I don’t understand the thing about the forum I am really new here so I dont know how
this works really.
3) I would need nearly full FA.
It’s really hard to get in to those schools as a international applicant, definitely with full fa.Also being Indian does affect your chances, your considered an orm which puts you at a disadvantage. To study for the ssat I would suggest to buy ssat review book for upper level.Theirs plenty of threads about how to study for the ssat already so you can just search it up.
@CottenCandyTrill still i have a 4.0 average in every grade( converting our 10 point system to US 4 point system) from first grade to 10th grade and I hope to continue this in 11th grade too. Plus I have a lot of ECs like I paint, dance and have been in many extracurricular activities at my school like dramas, etc. Plus I also play sports. With this if I get a like a 96 or 97 percentile in SSAT will it be enough for me to be considered?
How good are you at Painting and Dance?Have you won any awards? Can you be more specific for your other ec’sz/
@CottenCandyTrill
I have been painting for 4 years, have a couple of my paintings in my school gallery and get regularly featured in my yearly school magazine but I have not been very keen on awards but I can try to get a couple this year. I have been in my school choir for 3 years and I dance mostly at school shows but I have 1 or 2 awards for dance. Since I am going to be in 11th grade this year I also have a chance at being a part of the student council/committee (like class presidents in america but we are responsible for a ‘house’ (like harry potter if you say) and you can be a prefect, etc.), should I try that? I have also been in a few plays at our school. All my activities are related to school, as there are no chances out of inter-school or inside the school ECs where I live. But I have 4 year certification for playing the synthesizer under an established musical university (but i have not played it recently). I also have been training boxing for some time and can get an amateur certificate later this year.
Plus, if it counts, I can speak 3 languages(Englis,Hindi,Bangla) and I have studied Sanskrit for 3 years.
