So I know Stanford requires all scores. For my ACT, I have a 32, 33, 34 and don’t mind sending all of them. However, I only have one SAT score from two years ago when I was a sophomore. I was purely taking the SAT for practice and it was a bad day (didn’t know about score choice policy so didn’t cancel it) and I got 1920 (old SAT). That is the only SAT score I have. However, my test taking skills have improved over the years and I even got National Merit Semifinalist. I’m very worried since that is the only SAT score Stanford will see! Is it possible that I just use ACT and don’t send any scores from College Board at all? Will they know? Please help.
This is a good question. D applied early to Stanford with a 36 ACT and a 1980 SAT. She sent all scores as requested and did not get admitted or waitlisted. I don’t know if they would know or not…
My counselor said I could just submit my ACT scores because there’s nothing to compare the SAT score with and it’s the old one. She said the school wouldn’t know and she even called CB and they said schools wouldn’t know. The point of submitting all scores is to check that a student doesn’t take it a bunch of times…but I only took it once. I don’t know what to do.
So, I’ve decided to send all my scores. And plus I called the admissions office and they said they will see the upward trend since my sophomore year. I can discuss how I improved throughout the years in the additional writing section.
Glad you decided to send all the scores. And don’t stress about one lower score from a test taken in your sophomore year @pommy1. That will not in any way be a hindrance to your admission if they like the rest of your application (unlike evidence of deception). Also, I don’t know if you became a National Merit “Finalist”, but if so Stanford would know you took the SAT due to the score verification requirement.
Also, the school will be like “wow, even though she didn’t do well, she still sent all scores.” I doubt one bad SAT score from the beginning of my sophomore year will hurt me.
