HELP! successfully admitted students

I think i may not end up with good ap scores for my college application time. <i feel="" overwhelmed,="" have="" a="" throbbing="" headache="" that="" won't="" stop,="" and="" great="" amount="" of="" misery="" looming="" around="" my="" emotions="">.
<i feel="" overwhelmed,="" have="" a="" throbbing="" headache="" that="" won't="" stop,="" and="" great="" amount="" of="" misery="" looming="" around="" my="" emotions="">

I would really want to join UNC next year as a freshman (i'm one of those people who has remained true to this school since elementary lol but i know that admissions will only care mostly about stat, so allegiance is nothing unless one dresses themselves up with preppy UNC clothes; which might make the admissions people laugh at the max). So should i just not send my scores from past year and this year too? Would in that any manner have me rejected by the "admission board"?? (and please I'm just asking whether a college application with no ap scores is ok with UNC)

GOTTA KNOW ABOUT THIS OR I"M DOOMED ANYWAYS =()

A lot of people ask these questions but weirdly enough no one can seem to answer them since the whole admission process is random (or more towards stats).

Calm down. What are your stats? What’s you’re definition of “bad” AP scores? 4s? 3s? 1s?

probably <4 (pretty bad b/c i worked really hard my junior year only to fail my aps). Basically i’m a prez of one club and board member of another competetive club. GPA: 3.5 uw
w GPA: 4.2
have over 100 hours of service.
Have not gotten any awards (says a lot about my credentials huh? but i’m still confident)
will try for premed in UNC
Rank is among top 20%
Taken 2 courses at university
1 academic internship
Got nominated for Medical Youth leadership forum but don’t have enough money and finan aid packet still hasn’t come so i’m not going there.

I guess the rest of my app depends on essays. I feel a little bit down on my hopeful journey to UNC b/c this summer i wasn’t accepted to any competetive summer programs except one (the one that i was confident about; the one that was like on a rolling basis).

Any help or good advice would really help me but don’t hesitate to criticize me on my weak points as there are many.

Wait until you get your APs back. There’s nothing you can do about it now.

If you’re instate:
UNC will be a definite reach depending on your county and any “hooks” you might have-- which could make UNC a possible depending on your test scores.

Study hard to get your GPA/class rank up, do well on the SAT/ACT, and write killer essays. You could still get in, but you’ll have to work hard for it.

Don’t worry about your AP scores. I’ve heard over & over again that AP scores don’t hold much bearing in their application review. I did not have mine sent and I was admitted, in-state.

Are you in-state or out-of-state?

My son was out of state, did not report his AP scores, and was admitted. (He did send them before CTOPS and was awarded credit though.)

thx for all of those comments ; Really helped me calm down a bit

Beth, lottastrikes: I’m instate but I’m worried about everything b/c i need full financial aid (which is hard to come by even through universities that promise 100 percent backing)

Any other comments? I’m struggling with my SATs but i have a mindset to change that over summer. beth and lotta what were the SAT scores? Through that i can set my goals for senior year
Thx!

Are you in or out of state?

And anyways, AP scores really don’t matter in terms of getting in. It’ll be too bad in terms of getting transfer credit but you can worry about that later. AP scores reflect more upon the school than the student, especially if you make As in the courses but 2s on the exams.

My son had relatively low SAT scores for an out of state student. I believe it was a 2080. He had won a couple of national awards, captain of this and that, NHS, etc. He also did very well on his essays. I totally believe that UNC does take the holistic approach in regards to admissions. There were students with much higher SAT scores than my son who were not accepted (although he did have a 4.0 GPA with many AP classes.)

Much to my chagrin, the vast majority of colleges don’t care much about AP scores. You don’t even have to send them if you don’t want to. Don’t stress bro, you’ll be fine.

lottastrikes: Yea that’s why i like UNC to some extent but then I don’t have a perfect GPA lol. I’ll try to get those sat scores. Just one question, did your son take AP tests and if so did he do well enough for you to send them to UNC?

swaggerer: lol i’m a girl but thx. I’m just a little uncertain cause i would like the ap honor (as an award since i don’t have many; actually i don’t have any at all!)

By the by, when should i take SAT IIs? I was going to take then in january 2010 but then everything just piled up on me. Then, i have to take the sats for october (am not taking in june). But SATIIs are on same date so i won’t be taking it then. So could i take 2 satII subjects on november 7? I know it’s after ed but since i’ve messed up on everything at the point, i think i can take my chances. Then, i’ll just have to apply RD to tons of colleges lol

Yes, he took several AP classes/exams, so much so that he is a rising sophomore with 59 credits. (A couple dual enrollment classes helped as well.) We waited til after his senior year AP exams came in and sent them all to UNC right before CTOPS. I believe he had one 2 or 3 (which obviously they didn’t take) but the rest were 4’s and 5’s and they accepted all of those. I believe he also got credit for his SAT writing score and exempted from a couple classes which helped him also.
