Help the waitlisters out!

okay, here is the deal. i love that freaking awesome school named brown. i love it, love it, love, love it!

i would attend brown, except i have a slight problem: i have been waitlisted.

i figure myself lucky since my test scores are as good as my five year old sneakers…but i reallly want to go to brown.

so the purpose of this thread is to ask (maybe more like beg) the people that have been accepted to brown, but prefer to attend another school, to tell brown ASAP that they dont wanna go there.

and this thread has another objective, too. i would also like to beg the people that got waitlisted and want to attend another school to tell brown ASAP that they wish to be removed from the waitlist.

congrats to everyone, and i guess i should congrat myself as well. thanks and i wish everyone well!

adam make sure you contact brown ASAP and tell them how much you still love the school and how much you are still interested. send any updates (awards, grades, etc), have your counselor send a follow up, maybe an additional rec. from a teacher...write them a letter leaving no doubt in their minds that you want to go to brown next year

last year i heard they took a (relatively) good amount from the list, but they take the people who want it...good luck!!

finally, i saw this on an LJ and it may be helpful to you in some way: <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/community/college_help/683566.html?#cutid1%5B/url%5D">http://www.livejournal.com/community/college_help/683566.html?#cutid1</a></p>

I agree with starryeyedgirl...
Tell Brown you REALLY wanna get in... I guess that's why they took me in (seriously, my score is not really fantastic + my EC's is just B-A-D)...

I am also a waitlister and I am going to seriously supplement things a lot. Contact unresponsive coaches, try getting an interview because the local woman didn't get anyone an interview, get my GC to write and amazing something and write how much I love the school.

Thank you so much for your advice, starryeyedgirl. I just wanna ask you a few questions:
- I've only received the waitlisting decision on the web, should I wait until I get the mail package to contact Brown or should I just send in supplements right away?
- When I applied RD, I already sent Brown 4 letters of rec (2 teachers', 1 counselor's, 1 employer's), should I send Brown 1 more peer rec?

I'm definitely gonna write 'em a letter to express my deep interest in Brown. I love this school so much!
@ testdasi: did you tell 'em you reall wanna get in within the short essay question in the app or did you write a separate letter? Oh, also, did you get good finaid?

The link starryeyed pasted is helpful but can sb explain to me what's an appeal to decision???

Thank ya all for your advice. Thanks very much!!!

Also, I know this may sound selfish or... whatever, but like adamo, I sincerely hope that Brown acceptees or waitlisters who prefer to go to other schools tell Brown just that: you guys prefer <another college=""> and won't go to Brown. Thank you so much and huge congrats on getting admitted to the school of your choice. </another>

G'luck to all waitlisters who love Brown and realllllyyyyyyy wanna go to Brown like me :)

We should form a union and push through the gates. Maybe then they will let us in, we would be taking the initiative.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely going to take this advice, as I'd still really love to attend Brown! Good luck to all the waitlisters!

Hey guys... Brown was my dream school forever and I got waitlisted last year. When I called the admissions office and spoke with someone, he said be wary of all those myths like "visit the campus and you'll get in off the waitlist" because they particularly do not like those sorts of things. But still be affirmative... I sent in 3 letters and a tape of me playing violin (which I should have sent months before...)... but then again I didn't end up getting in ... ah well! good luck!

here, i'll get off the waitlist, and help you guys out as soon as i can

I've only received the waitlisting decision on the web, should I wait until I get the mail package to contact Brown or should I just send in supplements right away?

It prob. really doesn't make a difference, since the decision has already been officaly made and released. Also, since Brown mailed out their decision letters already, you should actually be receiving it in a a day or two (the time it would take to get everything together anyways).

When I applied RD, I already sent Brown 4 letters of rec (2 teachers', 1 counselor's, 1 employer's), should I send Brown 1 more peer rec?

Since the first 3 were required in the application, it can't be said you overdid anything. As a rule of thumb I would say send only recommendations that tell Brown something new. Maybe even sit down with the recommender and write a letter detailing your accomplishments, how much you are still interested in the school, and how you really are a good fit for the school (and vice versa!)

The link starryeyed pasted is helpful but can sb explain to me what's an appeal to decision???

An appeal is when you contact a university and ask them to reconsider their admissions decision. Some schools don't allow you to appeal, I would contact Brown and see first. Even if they don't let you appeal, if you ask they might tell you why they made their decision (but remember some schools keep this strictly confidential), and you ca try to redress it any new recs, essays, letters, etc.

I hope I helped a little, and I wish everyone good luck :)

Those accepted or wait listed who don't think you'll be going, help others out and contact Brown ASAP

and to the wait listers: you guys will end up happy and do great things where ever you may end up going!! and if a year from now you still find yourself wishing you were a brown-ie, there is always the opportunity to transfer.

I would contact Brown or other colleges (still considering attending Brown), but what if I'm not sure where exactly I'll be going; I'm just sure I won't go to a particular school? In the response card, you have to say where you're going.

I get pretty good fin aid and I didn't tell them in my essays. I SHOW them through the kind of words and my effort to get a personal interview. It's really complicated but I didn't manage to get the perosnal interview in the end but at least I show them by putting in a lot of effort.

thanks everyone. i just realized how stupid the name of this thread was. i used a preposition at the end of a phrase! oh no! the grammar lords will kill me.

anyway, i called brown today and they werent taking calls... so i'll just wait for monday to arrive. i've got major plans to still get accepted to brown. i told myself i would get accepted one way or the other, and i'm still in that mindset. hehe.

@testdasi: thanks for your input and major congrats to ya again!
@adamo: brown wouldn't take calls?? was it because you called early adamo?? I'm an int'l and plan to call Brown next Mon 'coz it works much faster and more conveniently than contacting 'em via e-mail.

i got a message saying that under ivy policy or something that that they couldnt take calls this week. but i think they will take calls monday. i dont think i called early. i called at 3:30 pm, their time on april 1st.

Another thought: Trying to convince Brown or any other school for that matter that you "LOVE" their school is a good thing. But maybe focus on what you can bring to the table. How will you make a difference? Everyone loves the school but how will they benefit from you being on campus?

when sending in additional information how to you make sure it gets associated with you? do you attach your net id or just name? ss number?

i just want to make sure that if im sending this it is getting to the right place

Your name and social security number should be sufficent but you could always attach the net id just to make sure you have all the bases covered.

hi everyone [waitlistees]! i feel your pain, and i'm right in your boat, sitting right next to you. i was devastated but still determined to do what i can. even if everything doesn't play out the way i hope and pray for, i want to at least say that i honestly tried. my only wish is that i didn't have to wait any longer. i like the feeling of getting something done, sealed--i like moving on. but this is different. it will test my patience. good luck to you all :)
