This thread is too funny! One of My daughter’s friends joined the W&L 2010 facebook page (though he never applied) just so they could say “OMG I’m so excited - any other Goths out there?”… some people love to stir the pot!

^Manyamile–I love your D’s friend!

Huh? Why did you drop Emory? It was the only college on your list where there was any likelihood of having substantial numbers of people like you, and posters here told you that. (Duke, too, maybe. I guess. But that’s your furthest reach.)

OP strikes me as a ■■■■■, but if a person like this actually exists, her desire for urban ‘new age’ persona is easily met at a lot of schools in combination with an honest dorm questionnaire.

Vegetarianism deserves a serious reply. Unless OP plans to eat out in the city every meal, she should eat at the cafeteria of schools she is considering. My daughter and I visited U Mass, Northeastern, two LACs in Texas, Reed and Lewis and Clark. Oddly enough, the only place that was poor was U Mass, but we did not eat at the one dining hall explicitly meant to accommodate this lifestyle. Northeastern has an ‘international village’ dorm with an excellent cafeteria; the two LACs in Texas make an honest attempt with an extended veggie bar, but I’m sure over time lack of variety would become apparent. Reed and L&C were really, really good.

My daughter is choosing L&C. I am unhappy to report that the new age flake sort of girl that OP presents herself as exists there, but obviously as a minority, or it would have been eliminated as a contender.

OP: again – if you exist – you are confusing appearance with substance. Well, perhaps you are not confused, but you are irritating those with substance.

I love it when people on CC say exactly what I was thinking Thanks EricLG.

I’m sure the OP is spinning with pride over what she perceives to be such cleverness on her part :).

Every ■■■■■ called out by their earlier posts always cries a version of “but I’m using someone else’s account” or “I share this account with X”.

“I do not qualify for need based financial aid. My dad works for Goldman and should get a bonus this year to pay for my entire four years.”

Maybe, maybe not!

[SEC Charges Goldman Sachs With Fraud - FOXBusiness.com](http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/finance/sec-charges-goldman-sachs-fraud/)

What a goof!

Lol, oh Skater Girl. You definitely made me laugh.

But really, American Apparel and Urban Outfitters? YUCK!

Most universities tend to be liberal. The ones you listed are not that liberal, but you can always find some people who are into those things that you listed. However, I doubt you’re going to find a large population ANYWHERE that is a “neo-hipp(y)??” and wears straight-up preppy, mass-produced, “clothes of the moment” clothing like those places.

You’re going to find people like me. A vegetarian, animal rights advocate, LGBT person and advocate, and who can’t stand clothes from “preppy” places. We much prefer clothes that are free, made by us, or bought at second-hand stores.

UVA and W&L…that’s hilarious…you won’t find a hippie anywhere within miles of either and you might get run off by trying to be one.

Both student bodies look like a walking and talking JCrew advertisement during the day and a cross between Polo/Lacoste and Lilly Pulitzer at night. Heavy Greek scene at both. You couldn’t pick two schools more different than the criteria you set forth.

The only two research universities south of the Mason Dixon line that even approach your criteria are UT Austin where south Austin can often look like Haight or the East Village of the 60s/70s and UNC Chapel Hill that while somewhat preppy is still very liberal and has the quirky little town of Carrboro right down Franklin St for the step back in time you seek. On any given day you can blink and think you were back 40 or 50 years while sitting outside the old mill or the Carrboro Co-op…still some communal farms outside Carrboro as well.

Both cities have amazing music scenes, both schools are very liberal, you’ll find plenty of vegans, pro lifers, in fact most everything you said you want at either school and both are highly ranked major research schools.

The only caveat, UNC can be a tougher admit than many Ivies or other highly select privates/LACs for an OOSer

Our HS sends a lot of kids to UT Austin. We visited a friend of my daughter last month who is finishing his freshman year. He mentioned that while Austin itself is quite liberal, the college has a large fraction of Texas republicans and a vocal christian religious presence. I really wouldn’t have taken too much notice of the remark, except that the kid himself is pretty middle of the road, but apparently feels like a lefty compared to those he dorms with.

That said, UT Austin is a big school, and all flavors are no doubt present.

After careful thought, I have decided to attend Washington & Lee. Anyone going next year want to organize a drum circle with me on the quad and sway to groovy rhythms.

PM me and we can be FB friends!

Then why on earth would you pick W&L? Absolutely defies all logic.

Good luck fitting in there.

LOL. Thanks Skater Girl for an amusing thread.

Best ended here.
