Hey guys,

Well I've browsed back and forth through the fabled halls of college confidential quite a bit, and it's helped me immensely - so I decided it's time to give back a bit.

A little bit about me - I used to be in the shoes of many Canadian college confidential'ers last summer and I remember how I used to worry incessantly and how I had a million unanswered questions. Now I'm a rising American university freshman, and I've been through the whole application process hoobah, so here I am, at your command, ready to dispense little tidbits of application info.

Also to the other experienced Canadians who have gone through the app process - feel free to chime in on any questions.

So ask away. Any question is fine - questions on stressful essays, SAT prep, grades, school EC's etc.

Hope to see more Canadians down on the south side of the border in the next few years!

Thanks a lot!

Do you know how financial aid works for us? Is the financial aid (for Harvard…or in general) criteria the same regardless of whether you are an American applicant, or an International applicant?

Are we usually considered from the American pool or the International pool for admissions?

Seems like the OP just created this thread and left, so

There’re very few schools that consider an applicant’s financial aid application regardless of his/her country of origin. The ones I can think of on top of my head are: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Dartmouth and Amherst. There’re a few other schools that separates Canadians from the rest of the international pool and put us together with the Americans. Some of examples of that would include: Penn, Columbia, Uchicago, Washington & Lee, etc.

I believe we’re usually considered along with other internationals for admission purposes.

Thanks a lot mathematicism! This application process is so exciting!
