Does Cornell accept additional letters of recs (I'm applying to COE and CAS)? Besides the 2 teacher and 1 counselor, will they accept a letter from a mentor? Also, if so, can I mail it to their admissions office?

Yes and yes, they would accept additional recommendation and you should mail it in. My D did - we called Admissions and they confirmed that you can mail in any supporting documentation including additional recs.

That’s what I was told when I went to a college of engineering information session. You should email the admissions office to be sure but they won’t respond until after January 3

I had lunch with an ex admissions officer from CAS recently and this issue came up, and she said that extra recommendations are usually not great for your application. They make it look like you’re trying too hard - it makes them think “why does this person need 5 recommendations? Do they think their application isn’t good enough on its own?” Only send extra ones if they have something significantly different to say from the teacher and counselor recs. A mentor one might be okay but don’t go overboard.
