help to quell my anxiety - chance a transfer :)

Hi guys. I have somewhat of a unique situation. Some background:

I have a very good high school record (2360 SATs, valedictorian of a huge affluent public hs, great ECs) and spent a year at MIT (fall 09-spring 10). I was miserable and took a medical leave after freshman year and have been out of school since then (about a year now). I'm finally getting ready to apply to transfer but it's been a bit since I've been in classes (I took 2 courses at GWU in fall 2010 as a nondegree student and got okay grades - A in intro psych and B- in ochem) so I'm taking classes at a local university (george mason) this coming fall (it's much cheaper than GW) so that I can apply to transfer while in classes, as I'm assuming that would look a bit better (plus I need the credits).

The kicker is while I did fine my first semester at MIT (all Ps), I pretty much failed my second semester, though because it was A/B/C/No Record I have no grades recorded for freshman spring. I'm pretty sure it will be obvious I failed my classes so I plan on explaining that. I guess what I'm getting at is, is there any chance of me getting accepted as a transfer? I'm looking at smaller LACs, and women's colleges in particular. Here's the list --

brown
bryn mawr
wesleyan
barnard
macalester
smith
mount holyoke
emory
college and william and mary (in state)

Thanks!

Your chances of transferring to any of those colleges depend heavily on how you explain your NPs. Do you have a verified medical reason?

You don’t need us to tell you that the rest of your record looks great and that with the exception of Brown, the schools you’re looking at are less selective that MIT, probably even for transfers.

Are you apply for FA at Brown? If so, you might want to read the thread on need aware transfer admissions at B.

yea if you explain the medical issue im sure you can get into most of those colleges you listed, I’m also from NoVa and if you were valedictorian at one of the schools around here, you should be able to get in almost anywhere
