I'm a high school senior and I applied for the Mechanical Engineering program at NYU-Poly. Unfortunately, I got rejected for the the fall semester of 2014.

I thought I had a good chance - I'm in the top 20% of my school, have mostly honors/AP classes, I'm female, a lot of extra-curricular activities, good recommendation letters, weighted GPA of 3.8/4.6. However, I can also see why I did not get accepted - I didn't do that great in some of my honors science and math classes (as in C's and C+'s), didn't take physics (offered as an elective into my school and couldn't fit into my schedule), 1810 on SAT's, and maybe my essays were not as great as I thought. I understand that it is my own fault I didn't try my best and that I got what I deserved. I'm so distraught that I didn't get into NYU-Poly because it was my #1 choice school.

I got accepted into the College of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University, but not the College of Engineering and I'm positive it's because I didn't take physics in school since it's a requirement. I also got accepted at NYIT (Manhattan Campus) with a presidential scholarship.

Now I'm thinking that if I didn't do that great in science (hated chemistry and biology), maybe engineering isn't for me. I was also thinking about doing Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering, but now I'm really leaning towards Computer Science. I really do love math, but unfortunately my math teachers were tough during certain years. I'm also very interested in programming (I don't know why this didn't occur to me before - better now than later).

SO TO THE POINT:
1. Now that I'm thinking of changing my intended major, does that effect my chances of transferring into the school?
2. Which school will give me a better chance at getting into NYU-Poly - NYIT or Rutgers? I love NYIT's campus and the city so much more than Rutgers, but I feel like Rutgers has a more reputable program.
2. How soon should I apply to transfer if I get at least a 3.5 GPA for each semester it takes? I read the NYU transfer page and it says that their most competitive applicants have 32 credits. However, I know that NYU-Poly isn't totally "NYU" yet. Also, I thought I had a good chance of getting in for the fall semester, but I'll be sure to improve. Do you think I can make it into the Spring Semester of 2015?

I want to graduate from NYU-Poly so bad, I loved the school from when I visited and I have friends that go there. I'm willing to do whatever it takes. Any comments or help will be appreciated.
