Ok well, my gpa is at 2.89. I know thats not very good but i was taking classes that just weren't right for me. I am going to Georgia State University right now. I want to transfer to University of Illinois (UC or Chicago). Either would be fine, but I heard Urbana Champaign is tough... Should i even give it a try and apply there or should i just save my money and only apply to chicago? My major is business.. Other suggestions ?

If you want brutal honesty here it is. You wont get in. You need to consider other options.

What if i applied as a different major and got in that way? would i be able to change majors once im there? And do you think i wont get into the chicago campus either?

All I can tell you is that your gpa looks very low. Call up their admissions department if you want to get a better idea of where you would stand. Here is the transfer info for UIC [UIC Admissions and Records - Transfer Admission Requirements](Transfer Requirements | UIC Admissions)

Thanks! Yea i know it’s low… I live georgia and i have to move to illinois cuz of my dad and im worried neither uiuc or uic wont accept me… I know my chances are better at UIC because most of their minimum gpas are at 2.5. but if neither accepts me i would have no where to go…

im trying to transfer for spring. Will they check fall grades too? cuz i think i can pull up my gpa to a 3.1

bump… anyonee?

At UIC, the minimum GPAs are very low universally. The competitive GPA is normally quite a bit higher. A 2.89 GPA is low for successful transfer applicants at UIC.

Hey Atlak, I felt like transferring there as well, I have a 4.0gpa and Im pretty sure I will do very well on the exams. For business thats cool. But I agree with UTPG1234, I doubt you will be able to get in. Also you need specific credits for that school and the major. If you are a sophomore you can try and transfer in as a junior and try and get a 3.0 and above. The only shot is to almost Ace the exams that are required to get into U of I. Are you thinking about going to grad school, if so try and get the second best school for business under U of I. By chicago I hope you dont mean the univ. of chi. cause that will have to be forgotten by you, maybe you can go there for grad school. Good luck!

Hey w3ar33l3ctrix, yeah i know the odds are against me right now… But i am entering my junior year this fall and im trying to transfer into the spring semester. If i do well i can raise it to a 3.1. Is there exams i need to take in order to transfer over? I didn’t hear about any exams… I did not mean the university of chicago haha i meant university of illinois - chicago campus. If not urbana champaign what are the chances for the chicago campus? That is what i meant lol. I hope to see your reply soon…
