UC irvine*
UC san diego*****
and pepperdine****

i am guaranteed instate tuition to ucsd for my sophomore year,
and got absolutely no aid from pepperdine

what would you do?
what would the smart thing to do?

my major is NOT anything related to BioE, by the way. +pepperdine
i am NOT religious at all. +UCSD
looking for a nice beach. +pepperdine + UCSD
i party. +UCSD

looking for a good outlet school into an ivy for grad. +?

UCSD has many other strong majors outside of BioE. Depends on what your major is really.

Also, at least according to most sources we've heard from, UCSD isn't exactly a + on the party side. Sure, theres San Diego and Tijuana, but the school itself isn't a party school from what we hear.

IMO, the tuition should be the final decision maker. If you're gauranteed Instate costs Sophomore year on, you just saved youself a ton over Pepperdine. If you're looking to go to Grad, the less debt you have, the better shape you're in.

The environment at Pepperdine vs. UCSD is night and day!

Pepperdine is a small private. You would be in very small classes where there would be a great deal of interaction with your professors. Most would know you by name. You would also have a great deal more hand holding in terms of your counselors and advisors. The student body is a fraction of the size of UCSD. The dorms are like palaces there, and the campus is stunning. Probably the most incredible view of any campus in the country. Most likely you would be invited to a professors home for dinner, and you would never have a TA teach you. In the end you would have some very loyal friends and a good close-nit alumni group.

UCSD is a very large public institution. La Jolla is also gorgeous, but the campus at UCSD is nowhere near as pretty as Pepperdine. At UCSD you would experience a very prestigious faculty, but your classes would be quite large. You would find yourself in a class with 300 students instead of 30. My guess is that the course load would be quite a bit more difficult at UCSD and you would need to be more independent in your studies. In the end the UCSD degree would probably be worth more in terms of prestige.

i would say ucsd. i never really liked irvine that much so i guess that's why i'm not for it. if you aren't really religious and seem to already be leaning towards ucsd i'd through pepperdine out. i come from a christian school and even I don't want to have to deal with pepperdine's bible requirements. you have to go to like an assembly weekly - i believe - and you're graded for it. you have to take religious courses - and despite all of that it's not really a christian school (like it claims). it's a school that claims to be religous and has religious requirements but doesn't really act religious. i don't know. i would definitely say ucsd.
