Help Tune My List!

I’m fully aware of that. In my list, notice the difference between “early action” and “apply early.” The apply early schools simply mean I will apply to them before I hear back from my Early Action schools.

I know that you’re not interested in schools with an athletic aspect, but let me offer this…

My older son wasn’t the least bit interested in the athletic aspect of his college before he went there. But, it has become a very fun aspect of his life - something that has totally surprised him.

College is very different than high school. In high school, the jocks can rule the school. In college, it’s not like that. A school can have an athletic aspect, but the athletes do not dominate the campus…unless it’s a very small campus.

George Washington doesn’t have a real campus or beautiful buildings. Not sure what type of sports atmosphere you’re trying to avoid…even at schools with a relatively athletic student body, it’s pretty easy to avoid any involvement with sports.

mom2collegekids: Thanks for your perspective.

It’s not so much that I’m trying to avoid the “rule of jocks” — I just don’t want to go to a school where there’s pressure to go to athletic events or people partying over such stupidity. I really don’t like any aspect of sports, particularly “mainstream” competition and celebration. Ex. I’m annoyed by the olympics and have never watched a Superbowl in my life.

For example, I visited both Northwestern and UChicago. At the former, I was really turned off by the enthusiasm I saw on campus for sports. The latter’s atmosphere is really what I’m looking for.

Thanks for the tip.

Places like Holy Cross, Boston College, Colgate, and Bucknell would have a vibe more akin to Northwestern than U of Chicago. There are liberal arts colleges that would be better for you than Williams and Amherst, too.

Such as? I’d really like examples. :)

Haverford, Swarthmore, Carlton, Grinnell, Oberlin.

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ve moved those schools up.
