Help! UCLA rescinded acceptance

I recently got accepted to UCLA as a chemistry major but I never got into the chemistry class during the spring. I thought I would be ok, but after I updated my academic progress they rescinded my acceptance stating I no longer met the requirements. Can anybody chime in on this before I call them tomorrow? Assist only states that you should finish as many prerequisites as possible, nothing about requirements. I have IGETC finished along with CHEM 1A and 3 semesters of calculus.

The reason they probably admitted you was because you were gonna have those classes done. If you don’t already know for some reason, you must have all of your pre-reqs done to be a competitive applicant to UCLA. They are very strict on pre-req completion. It’s not surprising at all that they rescinded you; not taking a pre-req will do that to you. All you can do at this point is call and hope by some miracle they change their mind. If not, you’ll just have to go to another school or take that class again next year and apply.

Oh Yeah, I forgot to add that i was going to finish the chem series during the summer at an open university.

Doesn’t matter. All UCs except Merced require that you must complete all classes to be used for admission done by the end of Spring prior to transfer. In other words, they disregard what you say you will do this summer for admissions purposes.

Sorry to hear that you were recinded. You still have a lot of major prerequistes to finish up such as Chem-1B, O-Chem, differential eq, and physics. Since you still have alot of prereq you didn’t take, finishing up Chem-1B was probably the minimum amount of completion for them to accept you. Good luck though. Going to CC is a lot cheaper anyways so might as well take an additional year. If not, hopefully you still have a backup UC.

sorry to hear that dude. good luck. maybe you can email Ms. Sun. just google ms. suns blog and send a note. she has good ideas when it comes to these matters.

oh, and i agree with COOK1E. good idea. just stay in your ccc another year. i had to wait an extra year myself just to complete ONE class. it was totally worth it. but you need to keep your GPA high, so be very careful about grades.

you got accepted without o chem? you got lucky in the first place bro…

@OP, California public universities are facing more budget cuts and UCLA is no exception. When you, a Chemistry major, dropped that lower division Chemistry course, UCLA had to conclude that you planned on taking it at their campus. That would have been an additional, unexpected and unneccessary burden on their resources and could have delayed your graduation at a time when the UCs are trying to get students through as quickly as possible to make room for other prospective students.

CCCs are intended to be schools where lower division requirements can be completed so they do not have to be done at four year schools. You should not be surprised that when you decided in the last semester before transferring to UCLA to drop an important lower division prerequisite, UCLA decided you should spend another year at CCC to complete that course.
