I'm a sophomore at Pepperdine and I'm really unhappy, not quite miserable but just not enjoying college the way I had should. I'm from Nevada, puerto-rican, and catholic and it just seems to me like almost everyone here is a SoCal WASP and they've formed such strong cliques that they won't let anyone in who isn't snobbish, materialistic, rich, and extremely preppy, and I thought I was preppy. Plus most of the classes that I've taken have not been too great, not bad just way too easy and the professors have been detached, again not what I thought it would be at all from the college brochures and guide books. So anyway so you get the picture, my social life sucks and I'm not getting the rigorous education the school's promised so, in short, I don't like it here at pepperdine and I want to leave. So my question is how is UCLA when it comes to accepting out of state transfer students from a private college? I know that if I were to go to a community college I'd be able to go to UCLA almost for sure, my gpa is 3.9 and I had really good high school stats, but how about for someone outside of the public higher education loop? thanks

the fact that you're not from CA and already at a 4yr institution hurts.... but a 3.9 is very good..... yea if u finish at pepperdine youll come out with a degree and 150k in debt, not worth it. are you considering going to a CCC to try and transfer?

i really don't want to go to a community college, it would be a big hit at my pride but if it helps i'd definetly consider it i'm hating it here. how hard is it to transfer into the college of liberal arts as an economics and classics major? how do you establish in state residency because i have a california state license, i rent an apartment in malibu right near pepperdine, and i have a part time job so i'm pretty self sufficient, but other than the license all of this happened over this past summer in june.

I don't think ccc is really necessary since you have a high enough GPA, it's not like you need ccc to increase GPA anyway, why not just go ahead and apply? see what happens? You probably are state resident so you won't be considered an out of state transfer. But make sure, look at their website.

That being said, your chances are high. But keep in mind do you really want to go into a big school like UCLA? I'm applying to Pepperdine AND UCLA as a transfer, but I prefer smaller schools. Is it really bad as you say it is? I'm kinda worried lol because I will consider it as my top choice if I get accepted.

its really only that bad if you fit my description, not protestant/evangelical, not rich, not snobbish, and not materialistic. the academics are ok, most classes are an easy A for sure but i like to be challenged. my dorm freshmen year was great, really comfy and a single but the social life sucked, zero tolerance alchohol policy and they were really strict when it came to parties. maybe it wasn't so bad to other people but to me it sucks bad.
Anyway please keep the opinions coming the more the better!
