Hi all, so i'm in a weird position. as the title mentions I'm trying to decide between some top notch schools. I'm trying to lean toward ucsd (like socal area/socal resident so...) hmm, well vassar and brown have both offered me more money and would be less expensive than ucsd for me (which, yeah being instate might sound kinda weird)

Point of the post: I've also been accepted to UCLA, but have narrowed down to these schools. I am a human bio major (want to be a premed). I really don't like competition and enjoy working with others and being part of a lively (well, not party atmosphere, more like upbeat optimists) , cooperating environment.
I want to go to ucsd, but the other two schools kinda have prestige and (? not sure here) better acceptance rate to med school

Depends if you like cold and humid weather or nice weather all year around? Also see how they rank for your major. Can’t beat socal… Also what is cheaper?

^ Thanks, Vassar is cheapest, but I like the warm nice socal weather.
I’m not sure how to view rankings as it would compare private lac vs public UC and that’s why I’m posting here on cc

personally i wouldn’t let my deciding factor be what the weather is like. i would visit the campuses and see where i would feel the most comfortable/the happiest.

i noticed that you said that you are “trying” to lean towards ucsd. why is this? are you forcing feelings about the campus that you do not currently have?

I had gotten into Brown back when I applied (I was completely shocked that I did, but I think my partial sob story was what got me in). I almost actually went there, but then I was told Emma Watson was going to Yale instead. To my dismay she ended up at Brown. But, I’m not complaining. UCSD is by far the more awesomer (yay for bad grammar!) school (in my obviously biased opinion)

Of course, that wasn’t my only reason for choosing SD (weather, proximity to home, cost, how I felt about each campus, etc etc).

Like others are saying, factor in as many things as you can. I recommend making a pro/con list. They’re almost always helpful and with one you should be able to make a decision you’ll be happy with

haha, thanks for the advice guys. I know my request/thread probably sounds weird. I’ve gotten into those schools and haven’t visited any (yeah weird, i know, but not everyone gets the opportunity to visit)

Actually yes, btw I am pretty sure that prestigious (grade inflation hopefully haha) schools do exist where premeds actually work together, b/c as doctors that’s what they’ll (or should be) be doing right?

IDK I’ve been searching some places and ucsd sounds like it has a solid rate for med school. I started this thread as a means of gathering information.

I started a pro/con list and will (hopefully) be adding some of the stuff you guys share w/ me.

Look, if you’re going to base you decision based off of what school sends a higher percentage of students to med school you’re going to be screwing yourself over.

Med school, and let me reiterate, DO NOT CARE ABOUT PRESTIGE what-so-ever. To get into med school you have to have 3 out of 3 things. Good ECs, a very strong GPA, and a very good MCAT score. If you’re lacking in any of these things (even if you’re at a prestigious school), kiss your chance to go to med school in the US good-bye (and say hello to the Caribbeans). So don’t even factor this into your decision.

My source? I have two sisters in Med school, both of which are the Presidents of their class (yeah, they still do that in Med school apparently) and both have worked admissions of the Deans of their respective schools. So my source would be a couple of Deans of Med Schools

Thanks, and that’s pretty cool. The schools are all really good. I suppose brown would be better in terms of GPA (i mean i plan on working hard either way, I just don’t like bell curves). Oh, and i don’t mean to be argumentative, i enjoy the tips guys

The biggest pull for ucsd for me was being close to family. Weird, I just used the past tense. My thinking is that at ucsd though there will be more competition in terms of getting into classes and then the teachers will bell curve, etc. and the GPA part would be more difficult to maintain. at vassar and Brown the grade would be more reflective of the hard work (as in “gooder” GPA)
