Help! UIUC vs Purdue vs UW-Seattle

Hey there,

I know you’re coming from a family with a different cultural perspective from what I’m used to, but I strongly, strongly, STRONGLY urge you to make choices that will minimize the amount of debt you will be carrying, because it can be a serious burden later in life.

Your parents have opinions. Okay. Everyone has them. But if they are not contributing any money, then they do not have any right to expect you to follow their opinions. They love you, but that does not prevent them from giving bad advice on a school system that they don’t really understand.

My suggestion would be to apply to in-state four year colleges or community college. Even if it means you have to wait another application season. Please at least do the math on those options before signing up for something more expensive. And remember to factor in room and board and expenses, not just tuition, for whatever schools you’re looking at.
