Hey everyone! This college application process has definitely been gruelling. Now, trying to move on from my rejections and trying to decide between my acceptances
I got accepted to UMich, UCLA, GTech, and CMU for ECE. However, I am not too sure I will work as an engineer in the future; maybe do an MBA, work in the banking sector, or go for a start-up.
I am trying to decide bw UMich and UCLA but very confused bw them!!
So please help me decide by telling me the pros and cons of both colleges.
I’d really appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you very much!
Is there a cost dimension to consider?
No!!
Great acceptances!
Since you’re not sure you’ll work as an engineer, and may even want to switch out of engineering to another major, Mich or UCLA might be better than CMU or GaTech, as they’d give you more options.
I’d go with Mich - great business plus great econ/biz - though there’s no compelling reason to choose it over UCLA.
well I don’t think I’ll change my major as of right now but yes I see what you mean. Thank you for your response!
If cost is not a concern, go for fit. Research all four well, develop a pros and cons list, and see which one suits you best. Do you have the option of visiting the campuses? Congratulations…all four universities are AWESOME!
Thank you! I don’t have the option of visiting, unfortunately. As I’m international, world ranking is important to me. UCLA is ranked higher for some reason even though UMich has such amazing programs? Could you elaborate?
There are 10,000 universities in the world. The difference between universities ranked within 30-40 spots is insignificant. I would not bother with world rankings. Besides, which world ranking are you referring to? Times ranks UCLA #14 and Michigan #21. QS ranks Michigan #23 and UCLA #31. But like I said, those world rankings are flawed.
Yes the rankings really don’t make sense and end up confusing me even more!! UCLA was also ranked 5th for electrical eng by QS recently even though UMich is highly regarded in eng… Where do you think there would be better internship opportunities?
Hi! I’m also between those two universities but for Pre med. For what u have researched they are both AMAZING schools and you can succeed at both. However the weather is quite a difference and ucla has amazing food lol idk if that is important.
