help!!! urgent SIR question!

hi i already sent in my SIR to CAl, but i'm having second thoughts. I'm pretty sure I'd rather go to UCSD, so I was clicking around the site and accidentally sent in my SIR to UCSD!!! i thought i needed to pay with credit card before i could send in my sir to UCSD, but apparently not. what do i do to withdraw my sir from Cal? I can still go to one of the colleges as long as I withdraw one of the SIRs, right?

yeah u can still go... how do u "accidentlY" submit an SIR??!... hmmm......

i was clicking around the tritonlink site and thought i would need a credit card to officially send my sir to ucsd. so what do i do to w/draw from Cal?

bump bump bump

I believe (could be wrong, but I think I read this somewhere), that with UCs, you can only submit the SIR to one UC. Therefore, you are obligated to enroll at the first school you submitted it to (in this case, Cal). This probably explains why you were unable to pay for the UCSD SIR; you are logged into the UC system database as a Cal student.

Honestly, everything happens for a reason. I'm sure Cal was well thought-out and you'll love it there. Be happy, it's a great school :)

but the ucsd page says "Welcome to the UC San Diego admissions information Web site. We have received your Statement of Intent to Register and are pleased you have accepted our offer of admission to UC San Diego! You will soon receive advisement, orientation, and enrollment information from your undergraduate college."

and my friends say that they didn't have to pay $100 to submit their SIRs at UCSD either. what am i to do??

cal CAL and tell them u would like to retract ur SIR, ull just loose the 100.... thats it.... no biggie

and i won't have "jeopardize my enrollment opportunities" by having sent in SIRS to Cal and UCSD as long as I retract one of them???

Call them in the morning....everything here is just speculation I think.

well thanks for the input, vc08 and missnancy427. here's to hoping...

My friend didn't have to pay for her SIR to UCSD. Don't worry about that aspect of your problem!

I have seen nothing that says you can SIR to only one UC.

Here is a post by a UC Davis Adcom member on the subject:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-general/500825-sir.html

Also there is this warning on the UC application site:

You may accept admission to one campus only. You may not transfer your acceptance from one campus to another after you declare your intent to register. A $100 nonrefundable deposit must accompany your acceptance.

Here is the URL: University of California - Admissions - The University of California offers one of the broadest ranges of study of any institution of higher learning in the world, all at an affordable price.

Buddy, just call them. Honestly people here will give their opinions on what to do, but they can't actually do anything in terms of help you get this straightened out. Call UC Berkeley and explain the situation. I would start with fundergrad financial aid.

batleby: It says this right before you submit the SIR (at least it did for UCLA)

So sleepless---what happened when you called UCB? Did they say you were fine to go to UCSD???

hey how come i didnt have to pay $100??? how could i see the payment notice? and how could I make a payment?

i can’t believe that you don’t want to attend berkeley. There are millions of people dying to go there.
Maybe destiny has decided that you are meant for berkeley. Don’t fight destiny. Be a bear!!!

OP, first don’t let people’s opinions of either Cal or UCSD sway you from your “gut feeling” and your decision. It’s your choice and your life, so go with your instinct.
Anyways, just call up the admissions office and explain to them what happened. Most likely you wouldn’t get your deposit back - but if you really want to go to UCSD, it’s fine!
And I don’t think UCSD have a deposit fee, a lot of my friends who submitted SIR there didn’t have to pay any kind of payments for deposit.

I say give more time to think about it. Do you really want to go to ucsd?
