Help using Common Application and Naviance

Can anyone tell me

1)If an academic teacher- not at one’s present school - can access and submit to the student’s
Naviance-linked Common App account?

2)If so, how does one do this? (GC says it must be mailed; seems silly and archaic, though.)

How would a teacher at another school have access to your school’s Naviance portal. That would be crazy. Anyone could mail anything in. Silly and archaic is frequently more safe.

Well, I figure the system may be set up to work like this, and GC doesn’t realize it:

The kid inputs a recommender name, then the school name , then the teacher’s email address at said school, and then they get the invitation or permission to submit, and it’s all done.

The teacher’s name and school would be recognized in the system as legitimate (maybe a drop down for searching?), and problem solved.

The teachers have access to see what is happening in the Naviance account? Thought only the counselor could do that.

If the teacher is not at your child’s school, then he or she wouldn’t have access to the Naviance account used at the school. If the Common App college requires an “other” or “outside” recommender, then the teacher could submit the recommendation that way - there is a special ‘invitation’ process but it’s pretty painless and clearly spelled out by the Common App. Otherwise, printing and mailing to the college is the best way.

@nvauser1:
My question really was aimed more at the Common App than Naviance, but realizing they are now linked, I was still hoping the once stand-alone Common App’s permissions were able to allow an offsite teacher to submit, once that teacher had been dutifully noted as a recommender (primary, and not secondary) by the student. The trickiest thing is that I have found one school that has its own address label and coding that must be used when a teacher is not submitting online, and as it had taken some time to happen upon that information, I thought to make it easier by utilizing a format that all teachers will be using anyway. My daughter does most of this stuff by herself, and it was rather by chance that I discovered something that she had not seen, as she had already gone in and copied for me the admissions office addresses as listed in her Naviance account. She has found some errors in Naviance, though, which keep me up at night.

Thanks for the feedback.
