I asked this question in the Notre Dame forums so I’ll ask it here too!
I’ve got a week to decide between Notre Dame and UT Austin. At Notre Dame, I’d be in the Mendoza College of Business, and at UT, I’d be in the Canfield Business Honors Program (BHP). I love Notre Dame and I feel like I would be a better “fit” there, but, I’d have to take out personal loans of around 30k. It’s my understanding that BHP at Texas is academically comparable to Mendoza. So, is it worth it to take out loans simply based on where I’d fit in best?
Wow, I would pick UT in a second if you’re saving that much! Then you can go to grad school wherever you want. But to get into UT’s honors program is quite a big deal and you would find it easy to get a job.
UT is a wonderful place.
Business Honors at UT is a very good program and comparable to Berkeley, Ross, or Stern, especially if you are saving money. I am attending BHP next year and I chose it over Stern. The choice was easy since I was saving so much money, but I honestly prefer it to Stern.
Have you visited campus? From the pictures and the size, I never thought UT would be the place for me. But when I visited campus, I loved the vibe and saw that the pictures did not do justice to the university. Students were laid back, it was sunny in the middle of January, the campus was open but centralized. I thought it would scare me how big the school was, but honestly it just meant that there was so much more on campus. BHP, on top of that, has the benefit of special classes, amazing employment opportunities, events, housing, etc. that would definitely help me find a community. I don’t think you are sacrificing much by coming to UT, but I think you may miss out by attending Notre Dame.
