HELP! Villanova Honors or Wake Forest??

My daughter is still undecided-she likes different things about each school. We live in Connecticut, so Villanova is closer; brother is in another NC school for one more year next year (these are pluses). She will probably major in a science-possibly premed; would like to be on some type of dance team, but worried about time commitment if team is too competitive. NC weather a plus over Philly. In Villanova honors with some merit money. Any ideas on variety of class offerings at either and how easy it is to get into more popular choices? Any info on either would be appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge there isnt a premed program at Nova but I know alot of kids who are pursuing the field. There are a bunch of different dance type teams if that is what your into. The science facilities are a bit dated and kinda mediocre. If she is in honors she will always get into those classes b/c she doesnt have to compete with regular students and Philly weather really isnt that bad btw

There is no Pre-Med major , just like most colleges , but there is a Health Professions program to prepare and assist students interested in pursuing a career in medicine.A specific major is not required , but a science major will help with meeting medical school core requirements and help in preparing for MCAT.

Dr. Friede is leaving his role as advisor for the program , sometime next year and his successor will be Dr Russo. [Louise Russo’s home page](Louise Russo's home page)

There is also a student run premed club that had close to 200 members this semester , and had guest speakers including Villanova Graduates currently attending medical school in the Philly area.

They don’t publish medical school acceptance rates , but they also don’t participate in a pre-application weeding out process that occurs at other schools.

Science majors do not have any problems getting into classes , the advisors will usually get them into a class even if it is full.I don’t know if Honors get any priority in registering for classes.
If you are “undeclared arts” freshman and are interested in premed , let the school know this summer so you can get a lab science freshman year or you will be behind curriculum and have to double up a lab soph year.

It is warmer in Winston Salem than Philadelphia , but the average temperature difference is not as great as one would think , as evidenced by this silly exchange I participated in on WF forum last month.Central NC is not Florida.

Summary- tough choice , I think Wake Forest is great and can’t recommend anything against ,but Villanova is terrific and on an upward trend and you have merit money in play.

Good luck and congratulations on your acceptances.

Thanks for all the info. Can anyone comment on the current dorm situation for freshman? We have read on other threads that many freshman are put into forced triples (which my daughter feels is a definite negative) If she does decide on Nova, our deposit is obviously one of the last at this point. Does being in the honors program help? What about being in a learning community? Any up to date info would be great!

Yeah, I think the later the deposit the more likely a student will be placed in a triple. We were late depositors and D ended up in a triple. That said, it didn’t turn out to be as much of an issue as we had imagined - worked out fine. Of course, I can’t say that’s necessarily the case for everyone.

As Brave said, I too have a fondess for Wake so I can’t advise against it, but Nova’s been fantastic without a doubt. I will also say being near Philly added another dimension to the experience for us which wouldn’t be the case at a place like Wake. We enjoy taking advantage of the city whenever we come to visit. Wake has always struck me as being more isolated in that regard.

Tough choice - good luck with your decision.
