How hard is it to transfer from Public Health -> Electrical Engineering? Is there like a possibility of denying the request for transfer?

Oh yes. There is a very substantial possibility that you request will be denied. EECS is one of the most impacted majors at Berkeley, and every semester, far more people try to transfer in than the department will take.

I don't know the statistics, but I wouldn't be surprised if only about 50% of the students who try to switch into EECS are permitted to do so. Furthermore, that's just talking about those who actually apply to switch. Plenty of other people would like to switch, but don't even apply because they know they won't get it. Generally, I think you would need to have at least a 3.3 or 3.4 GPA in lower-division EECS coursework (hence, CS 61 series, EE 20 and 40, Physics 7 series, Math 1AB/53/54, and so forth) to have a serious chance. Those students who got bad grades in those classes (and these are some very tough classes with harsh grade curves) are not even going to bother to apply to switch over because they know they won't get it.

How long would you have to wait until you can request a change in major to EE? ie would you be able to start at Cal freshman year first semester in another major and petition for a change in major for EE by next semester or would it take at least until your second year?

It's unlikely that they would entertain your transfer petition. Usually you would have to have completed many of the lower-division prereqs to stand a serious chance of getting in. Furthermore, I know it was true in the old days that you could only apply to switch into EECS once, and if you didn't get in that time, you were permanently barred from ever trying again. This rule existed to prevent people from just applying over and over again. It may still be true today. You can ask an EECS advisor. They may have changed the rule such that if you haven't completed enough prereqs, they will just kick back your application but without it having counted as an 'attempt'.

But anyway, either way, the point is you bear the risk of taking a whole bunch of EECS prereqs, and only later finding out that you didn't get into the major.

You can request to transfer into EECS once you've completed at least one semester at Berkeley. Applications are due on February 15.

If you are a freshman and are not rejected after the initial review, a final decision will not be made until after the department has reviewed your second semester grades.

You will need to attend a Change of College Workshop before applying to transfer. Sign ups are in 308 McLaughlin Hall.

just curious...what problem do you have with public health (i was considering it)
