Hi. I am interested in pursuing a Neuroscience major as well as being in a solid premed program. Hoping for medical school after college. I know that my scores are on the low side. I need help in assessing my current list of schools and receiving additional school suggestions. Current list: (reach schools) Bowdoin, Wellesley, Wake Forest U, (good chance) Trinity U, Wheaton C, College of Wooster & Hampshire College, (back up) ??? Also, financial aid is a really important aspect since both my parents make ~ 54K annually.

You have a good list with a decent smattering of reaches, matches and, safeties. Some other LACs in the east for neuro include Bates (low reach), Franklin & Marshall (50/50), Allegheny (safety). Non-LACs include reach Emory (reach), U of Rochester (low reach), Pitt (match/safety).

University of Evansville has a good major program. Wittenberg has what appears, on paper at least, to have a very strong minor. Both are within range for your stats. Wittenberg is likely to offer better aid.

Could anyone help me with the same search. My SAT is a 2050 (1360 CR+M), unranked, WGPA is 4.14, UW 3.94, good EC’s, rigorous schedule, 5’s on AP USH, AP Lang&Comp, 4 on AP Chem, 3 on AP World, now taking AP Calc AB, AP Gov, and AP Bio. 670 Chem Subject test, 730 US history subject test, just took Math 2 today. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you can make it in to Franklin & Marshall, they are planning to go 100% need based aid.

Pitt was mentioned before, but is likely to be too expensive. They aren’t so good with need-based aid.

U Rochester was mentioned, and is worth a try, but I think your stats may be too low. They are 100% need.

Perhaps consider Lafayette? I’m not quite sure where their need % is.

For max1317 - the same list applies, but with better scores, you could be more likely at some of these schools.

My neuro son chose U Rochester after a year (or two) of looking at places last year. He loves it there, but admittedly, his stats were a bit better. His second choice would have been Pitt. In his case he preferred smaller and more centered on research over larger and more “city-ish.” (Both are in cities, but Pitt really doesn’t have its own campus the way URoc does.) URoc also ended up the least expensive for us - even considering UA’s full tuition. Pitt was close though - about 2K more.

My guy eliminated the LACs as they just didn’t have the depth of research the larger places have. Again, that was his personal preference. He’s found he doesn’t mind the larger classes at all (wasn’t sure back when he was contemplating). Profs still teach and recitations and labs are small.
