Hey!
I am a sophmore @ the university of Puerto Rico. Honestly : is sucks!!!
So I am planning to transfer but I don't know where to... if any of you guys know of a good college with a good special education curriculum please let me know.

As for the requirements, I'm looking for a great college experience where I can recieve a good education and yet have a social life.

Is UGA a good choice??

Oh btw...I know puertorians tend to be discriminated :( Do you think I will have trouble getting inot college because of this?

first, if u want any real significant input, ur gonna need to post ur stats. second, puerto ricans are definetly NOT discriminated against in college admissions. in fact, if ur black or hispanic, you get a BOOST in admissions to nearly all american schools.

yeah. You get the upper hand at most colleges because of AA. What kind of college are you looking for? A liberal? mostly boys? mostly girls? northeast?

Well, thats good to know... :) I thought that we were discriminated...

I want a college that is not secluted or in the middle of nowhere. It really doesnt matter the ratio of boys:girls . As I said I want a good education but I cant leave aside the social life. I want to be able to have free time, and have a variety of things to do. I wont have a car and I`ll be stuck at the campus for a semester, so i guess having things to do is important.

Very important: Im used to the sunny weather of PR, needless to say: I hate cold. But thats something im willing to sacrifice. But i would prefer a university in the southern area.

theres not much that I can say....
Im going to be taking the SAT for the first time on January 22. In terms of my GPA, well...I dont know. I must say I dropped the ball on my first year :( I dont remember exactly but I know for fact that it was lower than 2.9.
In the other hand, my GPA for fall semester of 2004 was 3.8. But I guess im still cursed by my awful first year

Once your stats are concrete, it will be much easier to figure out your target schools, though I am somewhat weary of your GPA. It also depends on other factors viz. work experience, extra-curriculars, and essays.

Honestly it depends on the school system. Your GPA doesn't seem impressive at all. And affirmative action (racial preference) is thankfully being done away with at many schools. So hopefully schools will base their admits on merit and not skin color. Reverse racism is not the answer to the inequality of minorities in higher education.

Mari, boost your GPA to a respectable a level and your will EARN your way into a better school. It sounds like you are doing much better and have probably made the necessary corrections to do better in the future as well. Good luck!

I must say that I agree with all of you...I wish I could turn back time and fix my lazines. But I guess thats imposible. I sure am working hard now to bring my GPA to the highest possible.

If anybody know something about the University of Georgia please let me know.

as i dont think many, if any, of us has any real knowledge to offer on good schools for special education, you may want to try princetonreview.com or collegeboard.com. theyre not all that great for transfer help, but for finding a school with a good program in that area they should help

yeah i've been there... the top 4 univs where:

Vanderbilt

Univ. of Oregon

Univ. of Virginia

Univ. of Georgia @ athens

So I started reading the profiles for those universities and the only one that seemed my type was UGA... ( and my boyfriend studies in gatech, so I would be near him :) )
But I want to be on a good college, I dont want to go to UGA just because of my BF

why would puertoricans get discriminated by colleges? thatd be a plus for you. second, what is your intended major? you should be more concerned with what the school can offer you(no offense). if you like being in big cities, there are many good schools that aren't extremely hard to get into, especially in los angeles(cal states). frankly speaking, the schools you listed are all good universities, especially virginia(tied with Michigan for 2nd best public univeristy in the US). all these schools also offer many things to accomidate your social life(clubs, frats, events, etc.). i don't know about your stats though. don't be discouraged, you should apply. you have nothing to lose.
