So I'm a junior, going to become a senior next year and today was my last day of school. I just found out today that my transcript gpa is a 2.5. I feel really ashamed and remorseful that I didn't try harder. My friend advised me to take some online courses over the summer or do a dual enrollment in my local college to raise my gpa. The problem is today was my last day of school and none of the guidance conselors or college advisors were present to answer my questions. Is it recommended that a person with my gpa should take online courses maybe 2 or 3 in my weakest area's to improve my gpa in high school? Is it possible? I do not want to settle for a community college. I'm already studying really hard for the SAT's and will try my best in Senior year to get all 90's. Are there any things that I can do to raise my gpa?

This isn’t really the right forum for this question. You might try posting it in High School Life or the Parents Forum. Unless your high school accepts the credits for any course you take, they wouldn’t be included in your GPA anyway. You have already taken 6 of the 7 semesters of classes you will be putting on your college applications, so there is very little you can do about your GPA now from a purely statistical perspective. My advice would be to prepare ahead for your fall classes (see if you can get the textbooks and do some prep over the summer) so you have GREAT grades in the fall. That could help a little.

I’d say retake the classes you didn’t do so well (d’s,f’s) in school at community colleges or online (but make sure uc’s accept them or whatever school you are applying to). You should check with your high school if they would include the grades in your gpa…not all schools do that. (honestly though…I don’t think they would, but it wouldn’t hurt to try!)

Preparing for classes over the summer would be a good idea! Talk to the teachers that will be teaching you in the fall, send them emails and buy the textbooks from amazon and take notes over the summer!

your last chance is your first semester senior year! Make it amazing! You must get at least a 3.5 or higher at least…(I’d say shoot for a 4.0), colleges want to see progress(like a trend from freshman year-senior year) in your transcript not just a 4.0 through out your whole high school career. SAT’s or ACT’s should help too! Take extra AP classes to boost your gpa, but I’d recommend maybe staying away from those if you’re studying super hard already (you don’t want to stress yourself out…because after all it’s your senior year! ) You still have college apps:) Make sure you balance out your time and create a schedule.

And don’t worry…there’s a spot in the application where you can explain yourself for why you received bad grades! :)) good luck xx

I am sooo relieved thanks to the the wonderful posts that I’ve gotten. Thank you both so much for your efforts and your time to write something positive and keep my spirit going.

you should try online courses

If you do choose to do it, you will have to contact your school to see if credits get transferred in

p.M me and I will tell you the accredited ones

Thanks for pming me. I will keep you updated about your list

show me a sample tell me if you like it

k ima go offline now but tell me if you need help

k nice working with you, anytime

■■■■■… this thread is 6 months old, I am pretty sure the OP did NOT message this poster. For anyone reading, just because a course is accredited online does not mean the OP’s high school will accept the credits and apply them to his/her GPA. It would not be a good plan for this OP to take some online courses.

Please reply to the question, I have that exact question and I’m in undergrad…
