Help! What are my chances to get into U of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign?

I’m a senior, studying in an American School in Kingston, Jamaica. I’ve moved around a bit. I’ve lived in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and now Jamaica.

Intended Major - Computer Science

ACT = 29
GPA (out of 4.0) -->
Grade 12 (1st semester) = 4.0
Grade 11 = 3.93
Grade 10 = 4.0

I’m in the IB Program. Subjects:
Math HL
Physics HL
Economics HL
French SL
English SL
Chemistry SL

Extra Curricular Activities:
President of National Honor Society
Vice Chair of Model United Nations Club for Grade 11 & 12. Been to NY twice and Boston once to participate in conferences
Did football in Grade 10 & 11
Hacking Course in India during the summer
Other activities around school

Some Awards:
High Honor Roll since Grade 10
High School Excellency Award in Grade 11
Came 8th in Jamaican Math Olympiad in Grade 10
Came in the top 10% of the Olympiad in Grade 11

  • some small other ones

I didn’t get into GeorgiaTech, that was my first choice. I really want to know if I have a chance to get into UIUC!

your GPA is good, but their average ACT for CS is 32, so you’re a bit under, i hope your Math Sub-score is good. The fact that you have an original backgroud and a good GPA could very well make up for it. I would say you have a good chance, but CS at UIUC is competitive. So Good luck. :slight_smile:

With the competition of CS at UIUC, and being in-state and seeing 20+ friends with similar stats to you apply, I would say it is a low to mid reach. Your GPA is very good, but they are looking for a really well rounded application with EC’s and good test scores.

UIUC loves full pay OOS so you do have a good chance, 10 percent or more of their student body is overseas.
