help: what is better???

i got a 2000 on the SAT and a 28 on the ACT. i am retaking the SAT in may and have been studying a fair amount, so i'm expecting... but not sure of getting around 2100. should i do that, see what i get, and then if i dont do that well then retake the act as well?? right now my top choice school is wesleyan. i would most likely apply early decision there. i am pretty stressed- any thoughts would he helpful!
thanks

Remember ACT will report only the score you request reported.. unlike SATs, which send schools your whole SAT history. As a parent, I think ACT is less stressful because schools won't know if you bombed out or not, so it's more of a "why not take it and see" situation... What is the criteria for Wesleyan re: standardized scores?

their average ACT is 28-32 and avg. sat is 1290-1460 (i guess according to the book i'm looking at they dont look at writing..?)

If average is 28-32, I would definitely retake the ACT in June. You can call Wesleyan admissions office and ask them if they are looking at the writing portion of the SAT. ACT website has a section where you can look up which schools are recommending or requiring ACT writing portion. If you take away writing portion of your SAT, what was your score? Did you do the writing for the ACT?

i did do writing ACT but the score is not available yet... my CR and math is 1300

So in other words you got a 700 on the SAT writing. Is that right?

right

10 char

Well if you got a 700 on SAT writing you'll probably do well on ACT writing portion, but I believe the ACT writing is NOT calculated into the ACT comp-- although if high, it would make your comp look better... Still find out if Wesleyan cares about writing (they probably do - that's good for you!). BTW, you can look up ACT-SAT conversion charts online to see how the 2 scores compare, but I think the SAT is higher. What is Wesleyan's ED date?

the ED date is im PRETTY sure november 15th. and i remember looking up tests dates which were like mid oct/ or at the latest i think like 0ct 26 ish.. im wondering if i could study over the summer more and take it then and get the scores in still? i should probably call collegeboard and ask how long it takes for a score to be "rushed". i really wish the act writing WAS in the comp!!!! i think a 2000 is higher too- the only thing is that wes said if you submit an SAT you also have to submit 2 sat II's which is even MORE test taking:( ahhh!!

Try to remain calm! Are you definitely taking the May 5th SAT? What are your plans for SAT IIs-- i.e. when are you taking them?

i am definetly taking the sat in may and will probably take the sat ii's in october

Sounds good... Would you consider retaking the ACT in June (9th)? Would you have your May SAT scores in time to register for ACT if you're not happy with the results? There's probably a late fee but worth waiting to see SAT scores. The reason I'd re-do ACT in June (only if you don't like May SAT scores!) instead to the fall is so that you can study over the summer if you want to try it a 3rd tiem in Sept. Also I think less pressure before Senior year, when you start running out of options to re-test!

yeah i think you are right-- i'll see my may sat scores and then just be either a walk-on or do a late registration for june ACT. the only reason i havent signed up for that yet is because it's finals weekend... hopefully i just do well enough on the sat to be done!

Hopefully May 5th will be the end of it! I really hope this happens!!! I know what you mean, finals weekend--why do they do that? Still consider it but I guess you have to weigh the loss in study time for finals due to 5 hours testing. You have to (no matter what) keep your grades up and if you're on the border with any grades where the final would make a difference, then plan carefully. (No stress, sorry!) Did you have pretty even ACT grades in each area, or was one area high, one low?

i had 24 on Science...eh.....
31 math
30 English
29 Reading
i think. i only looked at the scores once but i'm pretty sure that was it.
if i retook it i'd hope to get 31, but i'd be decently happy with a 30

If you scored a 31 in math you should be able to get the science grade up. It's a confusing test and is hard to finish in 35 mins. Come up with a strategy as to how to approach it, and I bet you'll improve. If you get that score up to a 28, you'll get the 30 (if the scores you list here are correct) or if you get a 26, get the other scores up a point, you'll get the 30. Remember, if each score goes up by one point, you will have a one point increase in ACT comp.
