Help! What kind of awards should I be putting on the Common App?

Hi, I’m currently a senior applying to colleges and I’m wondering what exactly I should put on the awards section of the common app. The only 2 notable awards I have are:

  1. National AP Scholar and
  2. National Merit

I mean, I have other AP awards but I feel like those become insignificant if you put more than 1. My school doesn’t really rank/give out merit-based recognition either, so I’m empty handed there.

What else would you guys suggest putting on there?

Thanks

Put the two that you have. No need to fill up every line. Some people may put in things like National Honor Society, any competitions etc. they placed in etc.

@happy1 If they’re giving you 5 spots and you only fill 2, wouldn’t they think “Oh, this applicant is clearly not accomplished.” I mean I have a Sci Oly competition from 9th grade in which I placed 15th or something in for Anatomy but I think that’s a bit old >:P

IMO it is fine to just fill out two lines. Quality over quantity.

@happy1 Good point. Thanks very much!

If you have five, put five. But put the most important ones first.

Choose the ones that are most important (honor society, AP awards, if you’ve done national competitions, etc.) but don’t feel obligated to fill up all 5 lines.

@intparent @yonceonhismouth thanks guys! would you say that if i have more than 1 AP award i should list it? or would you say one is sufficient?

Don’t overthink it. List all of them.
