I can't seem to choose between French or Arabic. My dream is to work for an international consulting firm and I'm majoring in international economy. Any advice is appreciated.

Why not do both?

If you absolutely have to choose, go with what you’re more interested in- it will make studying 1000 times easier if you’re not viewing it as a chore.

You need to do the one you like the best, because regardless of grammar rules and vocabulary, the one you’re interested in will be easier for you. However, from a practical business standpoint, Arabic would be the better choice.

Arabic is more marketable.

I’ve heard that Arabic is more in demand, but more difficult to learn. Perhaps you can consider places that you’d live to visit or study abroad? Living in the country can increase your fluency and will be good experience, and if you’ve always wanted to go to France, for example, French might be very helpful to learn :)

Thanks everyone! I already have a strong base in Arabic because I’m Muslim. Guess Arabic it is!

Definitely take Arabic! I just finished my first year learning it and I love it. Besides being beautiful, it’ll definitely be helpful in international studies. It’s definitely one of the more difficult languages to learn but if you have a background in it that’ll help a lot. And if you take a semester and it’s too challenging, you’ll have plenty of time to switch to French - it’s such a common language to take that you can probably start it in the spring, which probably wouldn’t be true for Arabic. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or want to hear more about what learning Arabic is like :)

Perhaps look at maps of where each language is used and consider how they overlap with the regions of the world that you are particularly interested in.

Arabic. French seems to be dying off.

While you seem to have already decided, I was going to ask what your major is, since it seems like you’re just taking a language to meet a graduation requirement.
If you took one of those two in high school I would just continue with that language in college. You also mentioned you’re Muslim and already have some grounding, is it possible you have enough for advanced credit through a placement test?
Personally, I’m a French/German major, but would love to learn Arabic (my school doesn’t have it, just English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese). Then again, I also go to school in Quebec…
