I'm extremely dedicated and interested in film studies/production, and I've recently found out that I can't afford most of the schools I had hoped I'd have a chance with (Emerson, Ithaca, Drexel). Fortunately, I live in New York, and have SUNY Schools like Buffalo and Purchase to fall back on, but those are really the only two that offer film and are relatively known for it (not so much Buffalo).

So what should I do, as far as any suggestions go I'd really appreciate some input. I'm checking out Towson, which seems relatively inexpensive for a university, and I'm still going to apply to Emerson in hopes I can get a little bit of financial help from them.

My EC's aren't too great, but I've done a lot as far as film goes (New York Film Academy for a week, Film Festivals in the city).

So yeah, if anyone can help me out I'd love you forever.

My husband and I graduated from Towson. He was Mass Comm with broadcasting concentration. I was Mass Comm with PR concentration. That was in the '80s and nowadays I think they’ve renamed some of their majors.

Regardless of what they call it now, it was a good professional education for both of us. Husband’s track resembles your interests more than mine, so I’ll let you know that it lead to a successful and prosperous career for him. He’s got several Emmys, a Sundance award, and experience that has taken him to jobs on 6 continents.

I heard a rumor recently that Maryland publics are admitting more OOS students and fewer in-state. Supposedly, this is because the in-state tuition is capped per legislative order. So, the schools admit more OOS to offset the money lost by not raising in-state costs. On one hand, that increases your chances at admission. OTOH, it’s not great news for finances.

Yeah thanks a lot for the information, I’m definitely interested in Communications and Film, and I emailed Towson about their financial aid. Any other school or strategic suggestions?
